Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Saturday she declined President Trump’s offer for US troops to crack down on the fentanyl produced by cartels in her country.
The world leaders spoke recently by phone when Trump broached the topic of making American military service members available for operations inside Mexico, where traffickers concoct the deadly synthetic opioid using precursor chemicals imported primarily from China.
“I told him, ‘No, President Trump, our territory is inviolable, our sovereignty is inviolable, our sovereignty is not for sale,'” Sheinbaum revealed during an event. We will never accept the presence of the United States Army in our territory,” she said.
*** Thousands of Mexican and US troops were already deployed to their respective sides of the border in February.
Since January, the Drug Enforcement Administration has seized thousands of kilos of fentanyl, enough to kill more than 119 million Americans***
It remains the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18 to 44, according to the CDC. Sheinbaum did accept an offer on the April 16 call to receive more intelligence from the US, per the report.
Trump was also asked by Mexico to thwart more arms traffickers crossing the border into Mexico.

I don’t understand. I heard a few days ago that the drug cartels totally control the Mexican police system and government by threats to the people and their families, including with body parts mailed to the doubters. Threats and kickbacks for all involved.
Was that not true? Is this woman somehow telling the truth about the integrity of the Third World country Mexico?

Mex La Presidente is not a stupid woman. She’s got a PhD in engineering. The Mexican people adore her, but not the cartels. She’s been more cooperative with Trump than many other leaders. She just knows that if she publicly gives the okay for US boots, etc on the ground in Mexico, she’ll be deader than a doornail before the war even begins. These cartels are vile killers and ruthless. Their leaders and many members are sociopaths and they’re very organized with friends in high places including some in the US.
Is Mexico so compromised by the cartels that they could murder the Mexican President if she crossed them?
True. She cannot publicly say that she gives permission for American troops to go into Mexico.
Maybe she is compromised ; we do not know. But we do know there are dire consequences for anyone who crosses the cartels. So she has her fears about that.
Well, if the US military is in hot pursuit then that goes out the window.

I have heard about family being tortured and murdered out to 4th cousins of those who fall out of favor with the cartels.
