Some 17,000 homes, businesses and other structures burned to the ground in the Jan. 7 fires. It’s uncertain how much will be rebuilt.
Many homeowners will not be able to afford it, even those with insurance. Some are still trying to figure out whether it’s safe to return to their properties, given limited data on the degree to which toxins from the fires, including lead and asbestos, may have permeated their land. Roughly 400 land parcels are already for sale in the fire-ravaged areas.
Facing overwhelming loss and the chaos that comes with sudden displacement, those looking to rebuild must navigate an often confusing and time-consuming process. In most cases, it will take years for them to rebuild

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Drove through there some 35 years ago, on Sunset Blvd. to Malibu, and it looked like the 50's.
Well they voted for Kamala with 71% of their vote.
They finally sobered up?
Yeah i worked up there it was idyllic I was up there during a hell of a rain storm it was blowing man hole covers up in the air
I’m almost 80, and I can’t think of another event as destructive and sustained as the LA fires.
So many homes, each containing the possessions of several lifetimes.
The PTB are selling seats at the bidding table.
Those lots are worth a lot (sorry).
There will be a large number of lot-owners who can’t afford to rebuild. This could take years to play out. We’ll name the movie Chinatown II.
“Her asking price for the ghostly site was then $999,999, and she finally peddled the ruin for $1.2 million — making it the first burned-out property sold after January’s wildfires.”
lots ain’t going for fire-sale prices ...
Ha! Last I heard only 4 houses got approval from the Communist board responsible.
The more I hear about the Pacific Palisades, the more I don’t care.
* The people living there are some of the richest in the country—movie stars, rock stars, and various celebrities
* They chose to live in a fire zone
* They voted in the CA & LA governments that effed up their insurance & fire systems
So now we’re supposed to care about what they did to themselves?
Has East Palestine been cleaned up after the train wreck spilled toxic chemicals? Nope, and nobody cares.
Has the water been fixed in Flint, MI or Jackson, MS. Nope, and nobody cares.
People in the Carolinas are still living in tents. Nobody cares.
But we’re supposed to jump through empathy hoops for the privileged in California? Who would have the money to fix this themselves, but they’ve spent it on medical care for illegal aliens and trains to nowhere.
Thanks very much for posting. I’ve wondered many times about what was going on .
Very good post. Thanks. BUMP!
Some Freeper posted that California passed a law requiring that lots can only be sold at pre-fire prices.
I've not been able to confirm that, but the asking prices for Palisades lots on Redfin are exorbitant. As if they still had houses on them.
And many people who lived there were from modest backgrounds, working middle class jobs. Their homes were modest, and had been in the family for generations.
They were "rich" mostly because their home's land value had skyrocketed over the past several decades. Their "wealth" was in their home equity.
You think too much like me. Are you called a hater also?
Roger.
I ran across the same info. a few weeks ago- re: 4 permits issued in PP and only 1 approved in Altadena.
President Trump tasked the EPA/Lee Zeldin with clearing all 13,000 destroyed structures of HAZMAT materials in a 30-day window, and this directive was accomplished.
Ric Grinnell was given a CZAR overwatch position, working in conjunction with Secretary Zeldin.
California / Newsom / Bass, have ZERO excuses for holding up permitting progress other than their leftist biases.
Per the article... 17,000 structures were destroyed.
"Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."
No cure for Liberalism……
So in other words, slow or no rebuilding.
hey, maybe those prices ARE a bargain, esp. if in Malibu ... now one just has to jump through a bazillion hoops and figure out which officials to pay off and for how how much before starting to build that California Dream Home [or is that an oxymoron?]
