U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration on Friday proposed a $163 billion cut to the federal budget that would sharply reduce spending in areas including education and housing next year, while increasing outlays for defense and border security.
The administration said the proposed budget would raise homeland security spending by nearly 65% from 2025 enacted levels.
Non-defense discretionary spending — a slice of the budget that excludes the massive Social Security and Medicare programs as well as the rising cost of interest payments on the nation’s debt — would be cut by 23% to the lowest level since 2017, the White House Office of Management and Budget said in a statement.
The proposed budget would cleave more than $2 billion from the tax-collecting Internal Revenue Service. …

Thank you very much and God bless you.
It’s a good start.
Now go after the fraud in SSDI. That’ll save billions.

Non-defense discretionary spending is a small part of the budget. Historically, it is the part of the budget that Congress can and does cut, and it has shrunk steadily in terms of budget share. A lot of federal agencies, including totally noncontroversial agencies that we all take for granted and support, get nickel and dime relentlessly. My go-to example is deferred maintenence in the National Park Service.
With regard to the budget, the money, and the out-of-control deficit death spiral, is in entitlements, followed by national defense and debt service. Sure, there are some things in non-defense discretionary spending that can be cut. But in the big picture, they’re still pencil dust accounts, and cutting them won’t change the trajectory.
An article for weekend demoncrat talking points.
SLASHES!!
The legacy of FDR, LBJ and Bammy.
i love those cuts, FEMA, VA, HHS, Edu all need to go 100%
The article should read “eliminates the unDemocratic Parties illegal slush funds of taxpayer money.”
It’s not a good start.
1) Go read the whole article, not the excerpts, and understand the numbers.
2) It appears that the cut of $160B is not net. There are other increases added to that, but this is not clear.
3) One of the significant cuts is to the NASA return to the moon project.
4) It is popular to talk up things the base likes (increases in border funding and DoD) and not mention other things like the surge in deficit that will result. The one thing . . . THE ONE THING thus far immune to talk is the interest paid on the debt, and that is presumed to increase in this Trump budget proposal.
So what’s your proposal?

All of the DOGE identified savings should be baked in. USAID shouldn’t be refunded through the state department it should be gone.
How many billions did Biden spend paying Catholic Charities and other NGO’s to bring illegals to the border and then resettle them around the country, including paying for airline flights. This billions should also be a 100% savings. We aren’t doing that anymore.
Instead of raising the Defense budget, how about finding savings by slashing waste and bringing home troops from overseas?
How many billions are being saved by ending subsidies to NPR, PBS, Radio Liberty and Voice of America?
What happened to the fraud savings from Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security?
Buy farmland.

ooo a whole 163 Billion... this is about 2.3% of the federal budget
Watch the left continue to go insane. The federal budget needs to be cut by $2 TRILLION to just be balanced.
Any cut is better than no cuts, but a < 2.5% cut when we need nearly 30% just to stop borrowing money to function.
Read about the Matto Grasse. 3 crops per year
Thanks. I’ll do that.
Best,

Rooters....whatever they write, you can bet it will be in the least flattering way possible to the Trump administration.
Correct.
