US, Ukraine may wait decade or more to see revenue from minerals deal

The financial payoff from a new minerals deal between Ukraine and the U.S. is likely to take a decade or longer as investors face many hurdles to getting new mines into production in the war-ravaged country.

Developing mines that produce strategically important minerals in countries with established mining sectors such as Canada and Australia can take 10 to 20 years, mining consultants said on Thursday.

Summary

Minerals deal between US, Ukraine won't bear fruit for years

Threats posed by war with Russia will deter many investors

Challenges also include poor data, damaged power infrastructure

Russia occupies territory where several deposits are located

Ukraine sees deal as a way of improving relations with Trump

The deal is an attempt to recoup our losses. Other countries were guaranteed to be paid back...But not the USA?? What stupid President would make that kind of deal.

10 years? That sounds about right to get the mineral recovery
machine revved up.

This business partnership with Ukraine lasting decades will make what we paid for the war seem cheap in comparison. We’re never going to be able to drop this Ukrainian tar baby. While we’re trying to clear corruption out of DC, we are linking DC with the most corrupt country on earth. A blind man can see how this is going to work out. The elites will make bank on it, and Ukrainian kickbacks will flood Congress.

This was such a bad idea

Then, the deal is useless if a Democrat or neocon Republican gets into office.

No, it will remain the same, or kick in the high gear. It’s a fire hose of money going to the elites in DC and their banking buddies. You’ll see a new crop of Hunter Biden‘s, Nancy Pelosi grand children, Paul Manafort, Romney children, John Kerry children etc. It’s going to be a land rush in Congress to cash in on this no matter who is in the White House.

Regardless of the time for it to be profitable, we would still have the resource, control its supply, and have the means to process it. Those are the most important things I’d think.

I think the survey for the minerals was done by the soviet union. I doubt there is more of rare earth materials in ukraine that can’t be found elsewhere.

This “deal” is just lot of “sound and fury, signifying nothing”.

I remember when the ‘experts’ told us it would be 10 years till we saw any gain from opening up new oil fields. I think it was less than year.

I’d rather see it “revved up” here in the American West. Fewer infrastructure problems, shorter and more secure supply lines too.
