Making America Wealthy Again
I like the concept.
What confuses me is that I think the Tariffs are aiming at reciprocity and the idea that if other countries drop their tariffs against us, we would drop our tariffs against them. That levels the field and seems like a good goal. But, of course, if everyone drops tariffs, then we get little or no revenue from tariffs. So then the old income tax would seem to be needed. I feel like these two goals are in opposition.
Three things that occurred in the 1910s...
1) Creation if the Fdderal Reserve.
2) Federal income tax passed.
3) 17th Amendment was ratified.
The timing wasn’t a coinkydink.
We did fine without an income tax.
We can be great again without it and the bureaucratic menace it enables.
💯.
There should be a flat tax. Everyone should have skin in the game.
the old income tax was and is FAR AND AWAY more than a fiscally sound government needs and the best way to force living within our American means. IF every single piece of meaningless fat was trimmed from the budget, it would eliminate whatever pork our illustrious CONgresscritters will get for their bloated individual budgets and less palm greasing and pocketlining would happen.
I think Trumps idea is a base 10% tariff. Assuming our normal production and export potential, that is supposed to make up for income tax revenues. I dont know how the numbers would actually crunch out. And while the idea is appealing, I think he’s got a lot on the plate in the near term (make the current rates permanent or less than todays, no tax on tips/OT/SS). Those are big and valuable leaps. I’d like to see us get there without distractions. Then look carefully at next steps.
You seem to love the totalitarian, 4th Amendment destroying income tax. The income tax must be replaced by sales taxes, tariffs and perhaps a federal tax on the tax revenues of the individual States. I don’t wanna hear from or deal with the federal government unless it is on issues of war or foreign diplomacy.
I feel like these two goals are in opposition.
I was just thinking the same thing. If no tariffs are the goal on one hand, how can we have the goal of tariffs replacing the income tax.
Maybe 10% both ways where even the nation we trade with will also get the same benefit.
I’d like to see us get there without distractions. Then look carefully at next steps.
Agree 100%
+1
That’s why he set a baseline tariff at 10%............
Sure. Let’s continue to incentivize a large percentage of people to vote for higher taxes on others. I think everyone should pay taxes. All should have skin in the game.
Trump says a lot of things, so we will see. I’d like to pay no Federal income tax but i would also like to not pay tax on my overtime. Let’s see if it happens.
But isn't that the crooked politicians' cashcow?
Expect a big fight and lots of dirty dealin's over that one.
IMO whatever the other countries trade policies are,10% tariffs on most imports needs to stay.
Without it, international traders will just continue to stretch out supply chains instead of shortening them.
What I eventually want, is an America where producers, traders, and consumers all have multiple domestic options and future prosperity.
Right now, too many Americans, especially the younger and less educated are questioning the direction of our nation.
The problem for democrats is that many of their voters (who don’t pay hardly any income tax at all) think that people making 100k-200k are “rich”.
This is a problem for democrats because all of their voters are already in the bag.
This would be a boon for trump wresting control of the remainder of the middle class that hasn’t already come over to the good side.
Lower or zero income tax is great.
But greedy states like WA will increase property taxes and who knows what else. Dog licenses, grocery taxes?
