Some rather surprising news out of Washington. D.C., Monday morning, as Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) announced that he will not be seeking reelection in 2026. More significantly in the near term, he will be stepping back from leadership and stepping down as the ranking member of the Oversight Committee.
Unfortunately, the reason for Connolly's announcement is that his cancer has returned.
Connolly, who is 75, has served in Congress since 2009. Shortly before he was reelected in November 2024, Connolly disclosed that he had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and would be undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
Following his reelection, Connolly faced a challenge from New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) for the top Democrat position on the House Oversight Committee. However, AOC's bid for that leadership role failed, and Connolly won the contest 131-84.

Put AOC in there.
A lot of Democrats are stepping down. There is something the media is not telling us.
Cancer is a big deal for a 75-year-old.
As Howie Carr says: they’re leaving for health reasons.
Their constituents are sick of them!

It is curious, is it not?
Good heavens! Have some compassion in this case. This is a 75-year-old man with esophageal cancer. Even in the early localized stage, the 5-year survival rate is less than 50%. The survival rate drastically decreases if the disease progresses beyond the early stage.
Not in this case. Esophageal cancer has a high mortality rate.
How many experimental mRNA gene therapy shots has he taken?
Other than him, who else?
“Other than him, who else?”
In the House, no other Rat retirements so far. Two House Rats are running for Senate (Michigan, New Hampshire).
“Interesting new development for 2026 mid-terms.”
D+17 district. Republican pickup chance: zero.
But there is an excellent chance that Connolly will be replaced by a liberal who is even more nutzoid than he is. That’s how it almost always works in utterly safe D districts.
This guy has always been a typical DIM lib loser. As to the cancer...

I was speaking more to the overall number of Dems stepping down and announcing they will not be running again in 2026. Since the minority party historically gains in the mid-terms it seems a bit strange to have so many already announcing they will not be running again.
My best wishes to Connolly and his family as he deals with his medical issues.
” to have SO MANY already announcing they will not be running again.”
With Connolly, that makes ONE retirement in the House. Two other Democrats are seeking higher office. One is from a very safe district (Haley Stevens in MI-11), the other is from a marginal one (Chris Pappas in NH-1).
By way of contrast, 5 House Republicans so far are looking to move up. Three of them are from safe House districts (AZ-5, TN-6, FL-19), one can be marginal (KY-6) especially if open, and the other is a total tossup whether open or not (MI-10).
While it’s true that there have been 4 Democrat Senate retirements to just 1 Republican (McTurtle), 2 of those 4 Rat seats (IL, MN) are in no danger of flipping, and the other 2 are in the “Lean Democrat” category (NH, MI).
So the “Rats are fleeing the sinking ship!!! Muh redd wayve in ‘26!!!!” stuff is way premature.
It looks like he was most likely vaxxed since he is a big promoter of it.

Looks like he’s going to die safely and effectively with his turbo cancer.
good riddance to this antisemite.
I did a little more digging and, yes, he did get vaxxed at least one time.
