Mass Casualty Boat Collision Near Memorial Causeway Under Investigation
Clearwater, Fla. – Multiple agencies are on-scene following a boat collision near the Memorial Causeway that occurred at approximately 8:43 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Due to the number of injuries and the severity of the incident, information remains limited. First responders are currently evaluating approximately 40. Two air transport units have arrived, and two others are requested. Ten ground ambulance units have been asked to assist with patient transport.
One of the boats involved has been identified as a Clearwater Ferry vessel. A second boat has also been located, and its occupants are undergoing medical evaluation at the Belleair Boat Ramp.
Initial reports indicate several patients have suffered broken bones and other significant injuries. Reports suggest that the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that one deceased patient is aboard their vessel.
Due to the scene’s complexity, updates will be released as information becomes available. Check back with IONTB for updates.
The US Coast Guard will be the investigating agency regarding the incident.

The true definition of Mass Casualty is just “we have more patients than we have personnel to treat them so we have to call in neighboring resources.” That number can be 2 people with serious injuries out in the middle of nowhere whereas 10 patients is just Friday in LA.
