Americans Still Trust Donald Trump Over Democrats

The proportion of Americans who trust President Donald Trump to run the country more than they trust the Democrats is greater than the proportion of Americans who trust the Democrats over Trump, a new poll has found.

Trump has been hit with sustained negative polling lately on key issues including the economy. That he is trusted more than Democrats will provide some comfort ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections.

Since losing the 2024 elections, there has been internal infighting in the Democratic Party between progressives and moderates and a lack of clarity about who might emerge as the next party leader. Nevertheless, experts have suggested they could win the House of Representatives in the midterm elections.

According to the poll, 37 percent of people trust Trump to do a better job handling the country's main problems than they trust Democrats in Congress.

Some, 30 percent would trust the Democrats more than Trump, while a further 30 percent said they would trust neither, and 4 percent said they would trust both Trump and the Democrats equally.

The poll of 2,464 U.S. adults was conducted between April 18-22. It has a margin of error of +/- two percentage points.

It also found that while 60 percent think Trump is out of touch with the concerns of most people in the United States and 39 percent think he is in touch with them, 69 percent think the Democratic Party is out of touch and 30 percent think the party is in touch with American's concerns.

However, the poll also found that 39 percent of adult Americans approve of Trump's handling of the presidency, 6 percent fewer than who approved of him in February, while 55 percent disapprove, 2 percent more than who disapproved of him in February.
