China Just 'Folded' in the Trade War
The Gatestone Institute ^ | April 27th 2025 | Gordon G. Chang

Posted on 04/27/2025 5:05:09 AM PDT by Jacquerie

Xi Jinping's regime simply cannot admit it is not able to stand up to Washington.

[O]n April 24 about a dozen Chinese officials, including a "high-ranking official from the Chinese Ministry of Finance," were seen entering the U.S. Treasury's main building in Washington at 7:00 in the morning as Chinese security officials attempted to prevent photographers from recording the entry.

"In fact, the tariff waivers underscore that not only does Beijing need access to the American market far more than Americans need the China market but also that the United States makes vital products that simply aren't Made in China, and won't be for years at best." — Alan Tonelson, trade expert at RealityChek, to Gatestone, April 25, 2025.

When Trump has to raise the temperature, Beijing has just shown him which U.S. products China believes it cannot do without.

Beijing has ordered its airlines not to take delivery of Boeing aircraft, and the plane maker has now flown back, from China to the U.S., three 737 Max aircraft that were about to be delivered. Due to the long order backlogs at both Boeing and Airbus, this punishment imposes, as a practical matter, almost no cost on Boeing. Yet if Trump were to order Boeing not to deliver parts or provide services to Chinese airlines, China would soon have to ground a large number of its airliners.

China, according to Reuters and Financial Times reporting on April 25, is not uniformly imposing its new 125% across-the-board tariff on American goods. In short, certain imports from the U.S. are in fact coming in tariff-free. Beijing's new policy has not been announced and is not official.

Ronaldus Magnus - We win they lose.

Do unto China that which Reagan/Bush41 did unto the USSR.

I like Gordon Chang and have read several of his books. That said, he isn't always clear-headed when it comes to China.

It's probably too early to conclude that China has caved.

At a minimum, I would like to see all Chinese students sent home.

The Chinese students are trying to escape. They don’t want to go home. Why do you think the Chinese are setting up police stations to threaten the students while they are here in the US?

Slightly off topic...

The Seattle Times (behind a pay wall) printed a story yesterday about a retired longshoreman who has a perfect elevated view of the Port of Seattle from his apartment.

He took several photos that show ZERO ships currently being loaded or unloaded at the Port of Seattle!

Most of our ships come from, or transit to, Asia.

The Port did not comment about the photos before press time.

I’m not interested in providing them with sanctuary. I’d rather they stay home.

I knew they would fold. They would never say so publicly and probably one of their requests from Trump, which he may or may not honour, is to make it seem like a win-win for Beijing.

Which is why the DeMS-13 wants America to be China.

However, all China might do in response is focus on producing their own goods. Become more internal as a response, like Russia.

Even if they cave now, they have infiltrated the US to such a degree they can easily cause much damage to our country by attacking things like water, computer infrastructure, another virus, etc. They never give up.

A deal can be done—but it must be done in a way that allows China to save face even if/especially if they lose big time.

It will be difficult for President Trump to do that.

Lol.

Absolutely right about saving face.

It will be difficult for Trump (given his bombastic nature), but it will also be difficult considering that the entire Chinese economy is built on piracy, theft, and back-engineering.

It's a bit like helping Bernie Madoff save face after his conviction.

Naturalized Chinese citizens vote 70% for the Democratic Party.

Naturalized Asian Indian citizens - the most affluent ethnic group in the USA - vote 75% for the Democratic Party.

If the US were a unified country it’d be an easy win. Such as it is the Democrats see nothing more important than Trump looking weak or looking like he made a mistake so they can say, see I told you so. In this environment the US can’t beat Canada in a trade war (knowing that 95% of their trade is with the US).

“That said, he isn’t always clear-headed when it comes to China.”

I’ve read several of his books. He’s about 50:50 on predictions. Maybe less. I think a trade war with China is long overdue but I doubt we’ve “won it” already!

The GOP needs to get this message out to the public. It seems most Americans are buying into the Dems gloom and doom pictures.
