“...Mexico lost half its territory...”

It was NEVER Mexican territory. The Spanish conquistadors took over what was known as Aztec dominion. The Aztecs NEVER had defined boundaries in the same way that we see today. North America was owned by NO ONE! Indian tribes roamed from place to place, often warring against each other.

If anything, the land was owned to anyone by right of possession, meaning the strongest of the fittest. And this did not include modern day Mexicans. /spit

Good, have pride, stay home and build a strong country.

A win for both countries.

The ones coming here are descendents of the conquered.

Those of Spanish descent still rule.

Watch a “Mexican” soap. The main characters are practically white. The “help” is Mexican.

Thank you. What the hell is wrong with our young people? It’s disgraceful, using a wedding for grift.

Reminds me of the old saying:

Mexico - so far from God, so close to the United States.

The Mexican residents of New Mexico welcomed the Americans. The territory was badly neglected by Spain and Mexico for centuries. The same for California, there was some token resistance but they surrendered quickly.

The territory was badly neglected by Spain and Mexico for centuries.

Mostly. Spain was active in building fortifications to keep out the English and Russians. And in converting Natives to Christianity, which had the side effect of nearly wiping them out due to European diseases.

In early San Francisco (1770s - 1830s) Spain almost got into a war with Russia, due to the nearby Fort Ross when Russian ships came into the SF Bay. But all the Russians wanted to do was to trade goods with the Spanish, and they got friendly with each other. Russians pulled out of California before the Mexican revolt against the Spanish. History here could have been different if Russia controlled Northern California when the California Bear revolt against Mexico happened. Mexican leaders (General Vallejo and others) cooperated with Americans to overthrow Mexican rule; they wanted the USA to administer California.
