BENGALURU (Reuters) - Apple aims to make most of its iPhones sold in the United States at factories in India by the end of 2026, and is speeding up those plans to navigate potentially higher tariffs in China, its main manufacturing base, a source told Reuters.
The U.S. tech giant is holding urgent talks with contract manufacturers Foxconn and Tata to achieve that goal, the person, who declined to be named as the planning process is confidential, said on Friday.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I don’t see how this is MAGA
Why not America? If iPhone worshippers will pay $1400+ for an iPhone they will pay a couple hundred more to offset the costs.
“I don’t see how this is MAGA.”
China hates us.
India doesn’t.
So it’s a step in the right direction.
L
We can work with India. Let it play out.
Apple should be looking at moving production from foreign shores TO THE US.
Trump was laughed at by the Germans when he suggested they reduce their dependence on Russian oil... THEN THE WAR CAME.
China has been flexing its muscles for a while now.
THEY WERE THREATENING TO INVADE TAIWAN ALL LAST YEAR.
India will not prove to be far enough away.
MAGA is also ABC. Anyone But China.
The tariffs are mostly about uncoupling from China and reducing them as a military and economic threat.
It’s part of the overall trade deal that Vance was negotiating in India this week. One, it continues to undercut China while building up a developing trade partner in India. Two, I assume there’s a reciprocal pure US MAGA benefit in the deal for this. Vance and Trump know what they’re doing.
I won’t be satisfied until I get my Tesla produced Xphone.
I remember when Cook essentially said American workers aren’t smart enough to make iPhones.
That’s why normalizing relations with Russia and Iran is so important. Everyone wins but China who has its two most important trade partners pried away from the sweetheart deals China now enjoys with both.
In other words, American workers aren’t stupid enough to work for Chicom slave wages.
For starters, none of the intricate subcomponents in an iPhone are made in America so they would have to be shipped over here to be assembled by Americans (probably that demographic known as "robotic-Americans").
Next, to even begin building these components in America would require repealing decades of regulatory compliance laws, from EPA to OSHA, and on and on. Many of these regulations were put in place by Congress and will require Congress to repeal.
We're years away from making a US-made iPhone, even at "only" a few hundred dollars more (and it would cost a helluva lot more than a few hundred dollars).
Trump isn't a king. He can't just decree by executive order new factories to be built. China can. That's why they're so good at this stuff.
Yep. Americans like to be able to afford most of the products that other Americans make.
Slavery, yah TWOT. The CCP uses slavery. It is the Democrats that championed slavery, and they went to war when the GOP took them away. So, attacking anything that profits from slavery, like any company that operates in China, is GOP — MAGA.
Like one man can manage the world economy.
I like a world where companies can operate where they feel they can
make money.
Otherwise why bother?
It’s like trying to force everyone to get a needle or three,
for the sake of everyone.
F that.
When can Patriots start doing to Apple what the traitors are doing to Tesla?
Well, they already got the Customer Service and Tech Support, so they might as well make them too!................
India just cut a favorable trade deal with Trump.
The main fault in Trump's tariff plan is that many of the affected industries are mature and require large capital investment to get restarted here. Unless the gov can coerce companies to find that money it will have to provide it, perhaps by using the tariff revenue.
Relocating factories from China to India doesn't do much for the US.
India doesn’t.
So it’s a step in the right direction.
India is not a step in the right direction. It's a step sideways.
China and India are not individuals who "hate" us or not. They are foreign nations, totaling over 2.8 billion people, most of whom might not hate us, but neither do they have any great love for us.
Likewise, their governments are not motivated by "hate" or "love" for us, but are collections of people pursuing their own nations' interests rather than ours.
Our interest is to have iPhones made in America. Not in China. And not in India.
