Canada is a proud nation that will “never” submit to foreign domination — but if it is to be ruled by a landed septuagenarian from afar, its citizens would prefer King Charles to Donald Trump, hands down.
In fact, Canadians would rather return to the to the British Empire than adopt Trump’s repeated insistence that it become the 51st U.S. state, even with his promises of lower taxes and better security, according to a new poll.
The poll, conducted for DailyMail.com by J&L Partners, reveals that a 54 percent majority of Canadians would prefer King Charles III as their head of state, compared to just 15 percent who favor Trump. …

Thank you very much and God bless you.
It seems like a total rejection of their leftist governing philosophy. It sure doesn’t seem like Canadians themselves see a future where it’ll be fixed.
Trump can really start a fire.
Dear Canada,
Don’t flatter yourselves. We don’t want you. We do enjoy watching y’all go ape when President Trump rattles your cage.
You know it’s a slow day for news when a poll like this makes headlines.
[Article] its citizens would prefer King Charles to Donald Trump, hands down.
King Charles is already King of Canada.
This is getting stupider by the day, polls from people who have no clue what a constitutional monarchy is or how it functions, presenting people with an option that was gradually grown out of between 1867 and 1931 (when the Westminster conference ended all vestiges of the colonial past for the “dominions” — I realize this is all foreign to American readers but we have not had the British monarch as head of state in any meaningful way since 1931 before almost all of us were born. Neither is the monarch’s local representative the Governor-General really a head of state in any but a ceremonial sense. No Governor General of Canada has made a meaningful political decision since 1926 when it didn’t go very well, an election was forced and it actually led to the Westminster Conference.
As to all the other aspects of this situation, I really regret that this rather ugly strain of politics has surfaced and I realize it is partly Canada’s fault for taking certain things for granted over the past several decades, but a lot of these problems would be better handled by diplomacy and some frank talk in private, the public nature of this is making a lot of people both angry and nervous, and not just in Canada. I support other parts of Trump’s agenda but frankly this part is b.s. and needs to be put out of its misery sooner rather than later. How’s the G-7 visit going to go, do you suppose?
If we get stuck with Carney I think conservatives in Canada will be pretty much done with Trump and would regret having said a lot of good things about him under difficult circumstances only to have this dumped in our laps.
And there is never going to be a foreign head of state in Canada so whatever moron thought up this “poll” can basically KMA.
Correct.
Time to open burka shop in Ottawa.

He started nothing.
Not really, “the Crown” is a concept that has morphed into the state as it exists today. The British monarch has no real role in our governance at all. He is not consulted about anything and he is not active in our politics at all.
A constitutional monarchy can operate without an active monarch, it’s a semantic twist that basically means we have a republic that says it’s a constitutional monarchy. All of the power in Canadian governance is with the elected bodies at federal and provincial levels. The appearance of representatives of the Crown is for symbolic purposes but de facto, the Crown is the state. It may be difficult to understand and we don’t necessarily need any outsiders to understand, but it has evolved into this from something that was a straightforward monarchy when Canada was a colony before 1840.
Yes 1840, it’s a long long time since a British monarch had any direct say in what goes on here. And since about 1930, even the distant monarch’s representatives have had nothing but meaningless ceremonial powers. In fact it’s the same in the United Kingdom.
"Canada is a proud nation that will “never” submit to foreign domination"

Could have fooled me.
The country has been totally over-run.
Canada can kiss my ass. I don’t want them. They can suck up to the east side of the country and the Monarchy. Go away, you suck.
America Tories, loyal to Britain, fled to Canada after the American Revolution. When I traveled to Canada I saw a monument still commemorating those early Canadians.
And Canadians still have English monarchs on their coins.
Canadians were never that smart.
With all their hockey hellabaloo
Blame Canada…..🤗
Yes. Trump is the most beloved politician in Canada, Greenland, Panama, Ukraine, Gaza and the USA. If not in those places at least in his own mind.
He is loved everywhere for his civility, calm demeanor, veracity, and brilliant strategy.
I am myself looking forward to his turning Gaza into a seaside resort and staying in his Trump Gaza hotel.
I’ll settle for Set of
‘Trump Hotel Towels !’
