Southern Colorado Juneteenth festival returning at a new location following significant funding cuts

After significant funding cuts jeopardized the future of the Southern Colorado Juneteenth Festival (SCJF), organizers say the event is moving forward this year with a new location, thanks to community support.

Juneteenth is a national holiday – held on June 19 – that commemorates the official emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the U.S.

For the past four years, it's been celebrated in Colorado Springs with a festival held at America the Beautiful Park. The event is hosted by OneBodyEnt., a local nonprofit dedicated to serving youth and adults by helping prevent criminal offenses and re-offenses.

But after the event's funding was slashed in 2024, along with many other city events, it was unclear if SCJF would return for a fifth year.

OneBodyEnt. put out a community call to action over Facebook, asking for the public's help in funding the event. Organizers say that's when donations started pouring in, and they raised thousands of dollars to offset the cuts. Businesses also reached out to offer their help – including the Citadel Mall, who offered to host the festival this year on their premises.

"Following conversations to ensure that festival expectations are met, we are proud to announce that the new location for the 2025 Southern Colorado Juneteenth Festival is at the Citadel Mall," organizers said in a press release.

Juneteenth: a chance to remind everyone that we should be glad the Christian abolitionists won the argument over slavery that the Dims were pushing.

IMHO, it's also a good time to remind folks that the Dims' modern "It's not a person, it's just a clump of cells" mindset it too similar to their old "It's not a person, it's property" mindset. Then as now, the Dims devalue people. Juneteenth ought to be something us conservatives can use.

appropriate venue. Bet the mortgage that there will be at least 4 cars stolen and a minimum of two shootouts...And if the fried chicken from your food truck is not crispy enough? you’re getting torched.

Irritating.

I understand “Juneteenth” as a state holiday or event in Texas, in the same way I understand “Evacuation Day” in Massachusetts. Perfectly fine with those.

It is a stupidity and a travesty that it is a Federal holiday.

An abomination. And if money is being spent on it in my locality, parties, celebrations, etc, I would take issue with it.

Juneteenth indicates the day that the news of the Emancipation Proclamation news came to Texas, how it became a national thing is stupid. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863. I guess since January 1 is already a holiday and party-day they need another day to loot and shoot off guns (at each other).

Gee. I wonder if the people ‘celebrating’ will remember to mention that the Socialist Democrat Party, that they’re STILL voting for was, and still IS, Pro-Slavery?

I’m guessing Aurora wasn’t available so they had to go to third choice but Pueblo isn’t too far so should be plenty of Wilding going on.

Notice how the article avoided discussing that topic.

I wonder what the insurance company for the mall thinks of the decision to host this “event”?

Gee, I wonder why America the Beautiful Park didn’t want this peaceful, law abiding group back?

I’m sure they totally cleaned up the park before they left - including the dead bodies
