My prediction - things remain status quo.
I don't have much confidence in Roberts and Amy Conehead articulating the original purpose of the Fourteenth Amendment. That was to give citizenship rights to the freed slaves, not to the children of those who illegally crossed the border. I don't have a lot of faith in frat boy Kavanaugh either.

There was already lower court action. It put stays on Trump.
Trump is taking it to the USSC.

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States The bolded phrase was added specifically to exclude the children of certain classes of aliens from automatic citizenship.
An alien temporarily here on a tourist visa and illegals are not "subject to the jurisdiction thereof," just like children of diplomats.
That also means they are not subject to the same "due process" protections as US citizens, about which SCOTUS has erred in the past.
Citizenship is something special and is only automatically conveyed by inheritance from Americans parents. I remember as a child that both my parents were so proud to have become Americans they had their naturalization certificates framed. For my father, it also went with his framed honorable discharge from the USAF.

Very few people want to admit that the 14th amendment is nothing but a slavery amendment.
There is a lot of progressive ideology wrapped up in it, there is also a lot of post-civil war resentment wrapped up into it.
This crosses deep into conservative lines and is not just a “roberts/barret” thing.
Applying originalism to the 14th amendment is one of the most unpopular things I have ever seen.

USSC to hear birthright citizenship case on May 15 They are gonna get it wrong. The legal system has been polluted with erroneous ideas about it since the 1890s.
William Rawle is most responsible for screwing up everyone's understanding of the issue.
