Three times as many Canadians are staying away from the U.S. than the national travel industry first predicted—setting up a potential $6 billion economic loss this year.

Key Facts

Last month, the number of Canadians taking road trips into the U.S.—representing the majority of Canadians who visit—dropped by 32% compared to March 2024, according to new data from Statistics Canada.

There was also a 13.5% decline in air travelers from Canada compared to March 2024.

It was the third consecutive month of steep decline of inbound Canadian car travel, following a 23% year-over-year drop in car travel and a 2.4% drop in air travel to the U.S. in February, after President Donald Trump announced tariffs and began referring to Canada as “the 51st state.”

It’s probably very hard on American tour groups who depend on the Canadian tourists. That is unfortunate, though I doubt if the trend lasts through summer. For such businesses, maybe it’s time to broaden your customer base.
Do you advertise in Australia, England or New Zealand?
How about Mexico? Oh ...never mind.

Most Canadians RETURN home in March and April, I know this because I live in Palm desert and we are flooded with snow birds from November - March!! I am ALWAYS very happy to see them go home!!! I live in a 55+ community on a golf course MANY of the owners purchase the condos as winter rentals for the snow birds!! It would be VERY UNUSUAL for there to be traffic coming into the US in March as opposed to going BACK to Canada from the US!! I call total BS on this story!!!

I am ALWAYS very happy to see them go home!!!

Why?

Are Canadian snowbirds any worse than snowbirds from, say, Minnesota, North Dakota, or Maine?

Regards,

Doesn’t mean anything.

The impact Canadian spending has on the US economy is minimal.

The same cannot be said for US spending on Canadian goods.

The answer to this article is... wait for it...

They are going home. Winter is over. For example... St. Pete Beach is now an Air b&b destination (check current availability). You can now get a parking spot at the beach.

Fwiw, Canadians own St. Pete Beach

>> comparing regional snowbirds

well, there’s the factor of national sovereignty; e.g., Florida isn’t boycotting Maine — at least for now

Honestly, I think they're doing us a favor. Due to Bidenomics, our economy was getting overheated anyway.

Now it's possible that you'll be able to afford a ticket to Disney World.

Canadians are the equivalent of grown adults still living in the basement of their parents’ homes.

They are socialists because “Dad” (the USA) is paying all the costs of their protective umbrella. They have let their own military decline to the status of a joke.

They can’t and won’t shoulder their own costs of defense because they are too busy blowing their money on woke, socialist priorities and arrogant, virtue signaling.

They really are on the verge of financial collapse and don’t even realize it.

When it comes to President Trump, Canadians want to hold their breath until they turn blue in protest of his policies. They are typical Leftists. They talk tolerance for all weirdos except for those acting with common sense on the conservative side of politics.

Leftists cannot learn from the historic and disastrous failures of socialism.

Wasn’t it terrible for them when the US tourists boycotted due to the tariffs they charged on us? (Oh wait.)
