White House readies plan for Congress to ax ‘all’ public broadcasting funds, codify DOGE aid cuts

WASHINGTON — The White House has begun to notify Congress of its request to eliminate “all” public broadcasting funding and codify foreign aid cuts identified by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, The Post has learned.

Major proposed clawbacks in the so-called “rescissions” plan include $1.1 billion in appropriated funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides funds to PBS and National Public Radio, and $8.3 billion from USAID.

A memo drafted by White House budget director Russ Vought — and requested by GOP congressional leaders — accuses CPB of a “lengthy history of anti-conservative bias” and cites “waste, fraud, and abuse” at USAID.

I hope this finally happens but its like Charlie Brown and the football. Newt Gingrich was going to axe all funding for public broadcasting 30 years ago and it never happened. The Tea Party Congress was going to do it and it never happened. We’ll see if there are enough GOP sympathizers in the Senate (probably) who love listening to NPR on the way in in the morning to cut funding.

Just for fun, President Trump should propose fully funding NPR and CPB in exchange for sending taxpayers royalties for merchandise sold by Sesame Street and whatever other form of revenue is generated by those organizations. 😉

Oh, yeah. And a free MAGA tote bag. 😜 🏆

Frankly that royalties check should happen for all years this, and other, publicly funded “non-profits” have been milking the taxpayer. Every single cent they’ve made should be reimbursed to the American taxpayer.

I don’t doubt he can get the House to pass it, but if it requires 60 Senate votes, it will take a genuine miracle. I believe in miracles.

I used to be a fan of the Voice of America but understand it’s now the voice of woke. Too bad. NPR and PBS may have had a place when there were only the big 3, but I hope Trump succeeds in gutting their government funding.

Tend to agree - the CPB cuts will not make it, but others may.

Hence the need for the stolen Senate seats in 2024...

Trump needs to create a Dept. Of Great Ideas. Call it DOGI. 😃

My guess is that the republicans don’t have the back bone to pass this and send it to Trump.

In all seriousness, if all of public broadcasting went away, who would actually know? Do kids still watch Sesame Street? How many people watch or listen to NPR?

Sure the media will howl. But would anyone's real life be changed?

They could use the reconciliation process, it would only require 51 votes in the senate.

I don’t know if I agree with ALL...

I think some very rural areas where it is funding public radio and weather reports and other things probably are worth while..

But yes, funding Frontline to put out left wing propaganda pieces passed off as news and journalism should not be getting funded with tax money.

Most urban folks wouldn’t knwo other than NPR would be begging for money more than they already do....

However, I do think some very rural areas would see impact, weather reports, etc... there are definitely things that public broadcasting does that is useful especially for underserved rural areas...

However, most urban markets, yes, I don’t understand how Frontline gets public money to basically pass off left wing propaganda as investigative jouranlism most of the time.

With online streaming the type of entertainment and documentaries that PBS used to specialize in are available at no tax payer expense. And as far as the Leftist tripe it and NPR spew, F ‘em.
