Comedian Theo Von Backs Trump’s Tariff Plan: ‘If We Don’t Try This, I Think It’s a Wrap’
Breitbart ^ | April 14th 2025 | Jerome Hudson

Posted on 04/13/2025 5:44:27 PM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

Comedian and podcaster Theo Von made a now or never pitch in support of President Donald Trump’s wide-ranging tariffs, crediting Trump for attempting to steer America off of a path that has left whole swaths of American towns and cities “empty” and “boarded up.”

“The goal of tariffs is, if it costs more for people to bring their products in then they will build them here,” Von said, adding “So it’s kind of a longterm play. It’s going to take a while.”

“If we don’t try this, then I think it’s a wrap. On this comedy tour, we’ve been to probably the top 200 cities, like size-wise in America. Maybe even more than that. And a lot of them, there’s nothing there. It’s empty downtowns. It’s boarded up,” Von continued. “And so you start to be like, nothing’s going to change. There’s nothing coming that’s going to make that better.”

The Theo guy sounds very smart. He really opened my eyes. He makes a lot of sense. Now I have ammo for that woman that argues with me at work about tariffs and her Trump's derangement syndrome.

This is such an interesting debate in the Republican Party between the free traders and the fair traders…the free traders could care less if every job is outsourced as long as everything is dirt cheap at the local Walmart and the fair traders don’t mind paying a little more as long as jobs stay here.
Theo sounds like Trump really had an influence on him about keeping jobs here.

Theo can be funny, but smart?

When you gotta use a comedian for good arguments on this tariff ‘plan’ you may be in trouble.

Well he grew up in Louisiana, and there was so much refining and other production there that kept people away from working part time at a Panera in Podunk wherever. Same thing my favorite YouTuber, stobe the hobo used to saw about the Midwest and their dying town. There’s more activity in burying the former productive generation than people producing things there.

And people are more willing to move and plant new families somewhere then people think. A lot of north, south Dakota towns ect have people moving in just because the housing is so cheap.

Also, I have a friend who was building residential who just took a job starting a factory for LEGO in the south so stuff is coming back. It will take two years to complete the factory, but it will be an American factory with American workers.

Basically, he is correct. If the central banker and globalists win, they will quickly move to create a prison planet.

Thinly veiled arrogance. Being a comedian does not invalidate his opinion, how about weighing what he is posting on the merits.

Libs sure do love their comedians weighing in on politics as if they are presenting enlightened erudition.

Somehow the free traders have to convince the only vote for Trump voters to somehow buy the whole free market idea when they watch the local coal or steel plant close down.
While the fair traders have to convince the Mitt Romney voter types of the world that spending a few more bucks on stuff isn’t a bad idea if your local steel plant stays open.

The problem is that if you have lots of money flowing out of the country, some money floating around the country and only a trickle coming into the country you are going to have a financial problem.

The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act helped but did not get rid of the problem of money made by US corporations overseas not flowing back into the US.

‘ Thinly veiled arrogance. Being a comedian does not invalidate his opinion, how about weighing what he is posting on the merits.’

Then why whenever an actor, comedian, athlete or famous person says anything that is disagreeable do we automatically see dozens of posts questioning their intellect with instructions to shut up?

The debate in the Republican party has many aspects:
400 years of history says that Free Trade is best
There is a difference between trade with China or Iran and trade with Japan and S Korea ... extend that to others.
Trump won’t do it. But some future President (or Cabinet member for a senile President) might use it in corruption. Tariffs with no checks and balances from other branches is the perfect recipe for corruption.
There are many other considerations.
And the final consideration is that Republicans will lose in a landslide in 2026 and 2028 and the worst elements of a charismatic Democrat demogog will run the country.

There’s also a fine line between free trade and outsourcing. Many in the GOP have blurred that line. There is only one Republican in 30 years who has won the iron triangle in a Presidential election and that guy campaigned majorly on fair trade not free trade.

In the NJ/PA areas I frequent I see dozens (literally) of mega- warehouse facilities built over the last 4-5 years. I also see dozens of mega-condo/apt development (I’d guess at least units each). Clearing acres and acres of woods, farmland, open space, etc.

Don't denigrate the Jester. The Jester's Privilege is the right of a jester to talk and mock freely without being punished, even with kings.
(Note the crown and scepter mirrored the royal crown and scepter).

In most variations of the card game "War", the Joker beats Kings. For those few variations it doesn't, the Joker ties Kings.
