Thanks. Blancolirio is always very good.
It appears the rotational inertia of the rotor / transmission assembly ripped the entire assembly out of the fuselage when something in the drivetrain seized up.
Thanks for posting. I assume that because the chopper fell at such a height the family was killed instantly when it hit the water. I don’t want to think of the alternative with those 3 kids.
I remember around 2018 the same thing happened in the East river, 5 tourists were killed when a chopper went down but in that case they actually landed soft enough, and upright in the water with the floatation device inflated with all passengers alive. Then one floatation device failed and the chopper sank drowning them all except the pilot. Apparently they couldn’t get out of their seatbelts, just an absolute horror.
Thank you for the EIGHTH report on this crash.

Not only is this wasteful of Jim's resources, you're depreciating the input of other Freepers who contributed to ALL THE THREADS YOU'VE IGNORED.
Search function works. Why aren't you using it?
He probably posted it because that particular YT channel is aviation specific. The guy is ex-USAF and currently flies a B777 and also a private plane. He is very knowledgeable, non-sensational, and never creates click-bait content. It’s one of the best channels to get aircraft incident information. The guy is good explaining everything from aircraft systems to procedures to ATC communications. So that’s probably why it was posted.
As always, you are free to ignore any and all posts that don’t meet with your approval.
Thank you.
We have all seen the horrific video BUT not one explanation of what caused the tail and rotor blades to detach off of the fuselage.
“Yet another tourist helicopter has crashed.”
Nope, it’s the same one. Again. The only one of 2025, unless you consider the US Army to be tourists.
“A knowledgeable, non-hysterical report.”
You see where you’d already shot your credibility for “knowledgeable, non-hysterical,” right?
First I’ve seen of this U Tube report.
Guy knows what he’s talking about.
Thanks for the detail. I remembered that there had been a similar crash a few years ago, but couldn't recall the year or the details. And none of the stories I saw mentioned that this was largely a repeat.
1) Take a chill pill.
2) If you object to a story, hit the abuse button and refer it to the mods.
History doesn’t begin in 2025. Yoda identifies an earlier one in post 3.
Yup, running out of gas mid-air will usually do that.
Yet here you are.
You nailed it. This guy did an excellent job. All you need to know at this point. The picture he has (The only place I’ve seen it) of the rotor system coming down with the transmission still attached blows me away. This is a chopper pilot’s nightmare. I’ve never heard of it happening before. There was a massive malfunction somewhere that caused the transmission to depart the helicopter attached to the rotor system. A lot of people were talking about the “Jesus nut”. The “Jesus nut” was still doing its job when the rotor system hit the river.
Agree. It seem like a moderator issue not a user issue. Of course some people are so important...

Sincerely,
A Freeper that started here in the mid 1990’s.
Back in '67, had a brand new Huey (first operational flight) get about 50 feet up and then the transmission locked up. We whirled around and smashed into the ground on the starboard side. Five of us survived. The pilot didn't.
They did not run out of fuel. The pilot radioed he was low on fuel, meaning he would have to top off before the next flight.
And even if they did run out of fuel, that wouldn’t seize the engine or rip the transmission, main rotor, and tail boom off.
