Many small businesses are still threatened by the trade war facing the United States, even though President Donald Trump suspended most tariffs for 90 days.
The escalating tariffs on China have halted imports — and manufacturing — for many American companies, including mom-and-pop stores and family-owned businesses that cannot easily shift production or sourcing to other countries.
‘This is life or death,” says Rick Woldenberg, the CEO of Learning Resources, a century-old toy manufacturing company that makes educational materials for thousands of American schools.
Woldenberg told Breitbart News that the Trump administration’s tariffs on China — which hit 145% as of Thursday morning — would cause his tax bill to rise from roughly $2 million to $100 million — overnight. To stay in business, Woldenberg estimated that he would have to raise his prices 40-45%. Otherwise, “[Trump] is killing me. I’m dead.”

Yes cheap Chinese crap is more important then anything else.
Save Christmas???
Somebody tell these people that it’s APRIL!!!
Plenty of unique gift items available from artists and craftspeople on such sites as Etsy. No need to go into debt to buy gifts that will be used once or not at all in order to line the pockets of the CCP.
Didn’t we watch the Grinch every Christmas for 50+ years?
Christmas doesn’t have anything to do with presents, trees, lights or cheap Chinese junk!.....................

A lot of the wholesale importers have to put their manufacturing orders in already. “Mom and Pop” and “brick and mortar” stores do not. Yes, they might have to charge more to get their retail side products later on, but in my opinion, this article headline is misleading.
Yes, but many of the craftspeople source raw materials from Chinese makers. Unless they have large stocks of materials, they may have a problem. One of my daughters has an Etsy site, where she sells handcrafted silver jewelry. Not a problem for her, as it is a hobby and she has a 6-figure job salary.
Then there is one of my granddaughters, she is 13 and sells handcrafted items in downtown stores. She is freaking out a bit because she sources a lot of raw materials from Temu. This will cut into her profit margins. Not a big concern, she is a young teen at 13 and only makes a couple hundred a week. But for adults it is a problem.
I wonder for whom he voted?
Great to see Breitbart join in the globalist screeches over tariffs
They have to manufacture all the ‘stuff’ early enough to be available in July when all the Christmas stuff is put up in Walmart for early Christmas shopping. See, with out all that ‘stuff’ there won’t be a Christmas - (/sarc)
Because the true spirit of Christmas is all about the cheap lights and tinsel we get from China.
GP BS again.
they chose poorly.
( not like i haven't chose poorly, just not in regard to communists )
Oh darn, even worse...Breitbart
Etsy was great 10 years ago, but probably upwards of 95% of the stuff there now is foreign imports, mainly from China. Some of it is explicitly so, but much of it is “Fake Crafts”. Sellers do things like buy 100 music boxes on Alibaba, stencil a flower on the top, and call it an American Craft.
“would cause his tax bill to rise from roughly $2 million to $100 million — overnight.”
Andrew sells learning toys? Ironic.
That statement is utter nonsense. $2,000,000 times 145% is 4.9 million.
I just placed an order for new lodge pins for our fraternal order. Was warned that the quote I received a few days ago may also have additional tariff.
I indicated I am happy to pay it as long as they attempt to find a US manufacturer (now that pricing is on more equal footing). I am surprised our approved supplier hasn't always sourced these pins in the US. The supplier is domestic but the manufacturing is in China.
How did Woldenberg turn into Andrew?
New phone has a mind of its own.
Mom-and-Pop Businesses Could Still Collapse as China Tariffs Climb; Want 90-Day Pause to ‘Save Christmas.
If so how did 99 Cent and dollar stores go out of business before the tariffs panic light came on.
Collusion ?
