Following the data release, the onshore yuan was hovering near multi-decade lows at 7.3469 per dollar, after hitting its weakest level since 2007 earlier in the session. The offshore yuan weakened 0.23% to 7.3611 on the dollar.

So all of this pain in China, and it is their own numbers so the reality is infinitely worse. Oh noes. Thinking about the poor chinese people being brought back into the stone age where we found them in the 1800’s— I think that’s more than I can bear. Boo hoo. I sure hope their 3 Gorges dam doesn’t collapse like everything else they build. That would be a real shame.

Just wondering, if the CCP tried to invade/blockade Taiwan (Formosa), do you think the Taiwanese have the capability to evade the Chicom air defences and take out the 3 Gorges dam?
Would they try before being overwhelmed?

Reminds me of the old joke about the price of tea in China.

Mess with the bull and sooner or later you get the horns. China wants to be a world power and maybe they are militarily, but they have so many other problems that they can’t make it stick.

They won’t go back to the Stone Age...but the CCP just might. CCP China is a house of cards just needing the right amount of wind to blow on it.

Why US trades with its enemy is beyond me. CCP lies, cheats, steals and spies. Any agreement with them is garbage and will be violated. They are criminals and the CCP culture is such that they cannot deal with trading partners honestly. To them, world trade is a zero sum game where the pie cannot be expanded and the goal is to take all of the pie even if it’s a smaller pie. You’ll never change that belief. If China can’t cheat the US, they will go down the line and cheat anyone that works with them. Therefore, any trading partners or group created around China’s economy is going to be very one sided. We’ve already seen this in the way China deals with Africa and SA. It’s all about predatory lending and one sided deals.
Hopefully, US will bring more manufacturing domestically and create better supply chains and relationships with more friendly and reliable partners. I really hope that US can ditch China once and for all. This is a truly golden once in a lifetime opportunity to prevent China from running the planet and destroying the US.

Most of Chinas oil and NG is overseas. If they mess with Taiwan, even a soft blockade would take them down in less than a year. China’s navy couldn’t protect their sea lanes. US bases in Diego Garcia, Singapore and Philippines can easily sink big targets such as tankers. After sinking a few of them, Iran and ME oil producers wouldn’t send any more oil out. A hard blockade would shut their economy down in a couple months.
If CCP tries to take Taiwan, they’re through.

It's not what we imagine apparently, but it's always fun to bash China to make us feel better.

Yes.
Would they want to do that?

Between Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, the Reds dont stand a chance.

And those three are basically united in the stand against Red China.

BTW, people figure it’d take each of them less than a week, or so, to put together a nuclear weapon.

Producer prices fell for the 29th straight month, dropping 2.5% in March from a year earlier and marking the largest contraction since November 2024.

When sales hit rock bottom prices drop too cnbc spins story.

If he created that in 2019, he’d’ve been dead-on. But official Chinese GDP says that the real GDP of China was flat for three years, before growing at a modest pace (5%... pretty damned good by Western standards) last year.

If the 3 Gorges WAS destroyed in a battle for Taiwan, would the CCP respond with strategic nukes and at who? And, is the West threat to light the fuse and go all in on a strategic nuclear response on the CCP, credible and a deterrent?

I don’t think anyone has to strike the 3 Gorges dam to be honest. It’s Chinese— one of these typhoons it’s going to just crumble. They do everything shoddily, in a hurry with substandard parts. It’ll just fall over one of these days

I wonder if WE have any tools that would take OUT without leaving our prints or even that it wasn’t just an accident?
Of course someone might leak that President Trump authorized it and there would be civilian casualties. Maybe acceptable numb ers given the stakes.

exactly. If I were the President, on my first day in office I would ask my military guys if we had anything that could take it out clandestinely during a monsoon. It wildly shakes from side to side during one of those-I’ve seen it. Maybe a stealth satellite with a particle beam or something. I like to think we’ve got some pretty freaky crap sitting around. I hate to think we’ve been sitting on our hands since the 1950’s.
