That explains why New Mexico is solidly a blue state.

Maybe they should call CBP/ICE and ID and assist on a NM mass exportation.

Wow, I didn’t realize NM was so far gone:
Excerpt:
“Action by the Democratic governor clears the way for dozens of guard members to help the Albuquerque Police Department starting next month.

About 60 to 70 soldiers will be stationed in largest city, home to over a quarter of the state, for six months to a year, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham told reporters Tuesday.

Grisham pulled the trigger after the chief of police asked for assistance at the end of March, as the city of dealing with a fentanyl crisis, violent crime and growing homelessness problem.

Some of the troops will be assigned to Central Avenue, part of the historic Route 66.

The area is known as ‘The War Zone’ by locals, and is the site of homeless encampments and open-air drug use.”

And Captain Obvious observes that wherever DemocRATz rule, the effects of their lack of morality and history surface like a ping pong ball from the bottom of a pool.

THE National Guard? or the New Mexico Guard?

New Mexico has (bleeped) in its own nest. They shouldn’t use MY taxpayer dollars to undo their screwup.

It took a while. Moved here in 1992, and East Central including the “War Zone” were occasionally colorful, but not super dangerous (true I had worked in Anacostia D.C. during the crack wars so it might have been contrast.)

With drugs and increasing homelessness Central Ave. (Rt. 66 of song and legend) became the “boulevard of the damaged”. All manner of crazies and thugs. Business that had been in the area for 40-60 years just packed up and closed.

The current Mayor is an super lib who, as a city council member when the Guard was suggested during a previous bad patch, called them Stormtroopers. He’s a complete failue. The Governor, a tyrannical garden gnome, who enacted some of the worst covid restrictions in the nation, has major ambitions. She’d have been out of here in a hot minute if Kamala had won.

Once you get outside the cities and major rural welfare enclaves, folks are pretty conservative, but it’s a matter of numbers.

Google “Espanola, New Mexico” and look at images/video. About 80 miles N of Abq. In 1985 it was called the Lowrider Capital of the USA. Today its called the Heroin Capital of NM.

RE: “However, they will not be armed or in uniform, reported the Albuquerque Journal.”

Thanks for highlighting that. There actually was a trend nationally in urban areas to send in counselors to reason with criminals.

Fictionalized on Law and Order SVU,
Season 17, episode 13 “Townhouse Incident”.
Female social worker extolls the superiority of advanced de-escalation techniques rather than armed officers to calm an out of control violent husband about to kill his wife. The social worker, Sarah, is suddenly taken hostage with a knife to her throat by the man.

My thinking too. Are these current police officers who are members of the guard? The mayor gets to slide the cost of policing to the guard and rides the wave of her supporters by still defunding the police.

They shouldn’t use MY taxpayer dollars to undo their screwup.

States can use their National Guard for state-defined missions, under state command and control, with state funding. The Feds aren't paying for this mission.
