Senate Majority Leader John Thune and other establishment Republicans are lobbying President Trump to endorse Senator John Cornyn over Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
According to a report from CNN, Republican leaders are becoming “anxious” about the prospect of Paxton launching a successful primary challenge against Cornyn.
Cornyn has long been unpopular within MAGA circles for his closeness to former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and opposition to parts of Trump’s policia agenda.
The report explains:
Republicans are growing anxious about an emerging Texas primary engulfing one of their longest-serving senators, fearful that a hugely expensive intraparty feud will have major ramifications across the map in next year’s midterms. And they want President Donald Trump to stop it.
Behind the scenes, Senate GOP leaders have personally asked Trump to back Sen. John Cornyn, who has occupied his seat for more than two decades and narrowly lost his bid to become Senate majority leader last fall.
All that has added up to one overriding fear: that a Texas Senate GOP primary could end up costing their party at least $100 million, siphoning money from other critical battlegrounds, according to several Senate GOP sources.
Plus, they worry that a wounded GOP nominee could end up giving Democrats a chance in what would otherwise be a long-shot pickup opportunity as former Rep. Colin Allred weighs another Senate run.

What if Cornyn doesn’t run at all? He’s not wanted. He is a POS RINO. He needs to be told the obvious. The gop needs to be taught and punished when wrong. But something tells me if these scumbags kiss his ass enough, the stable Genius will suddenly be OK with that tejas loser.
After taking out Cornholio, MAGA needs to throw out John Thune. /spit

Cornyn is the poster child for what is wrong with the Senate.

Just what is this fabricated “policia” agenda?
WHY, IN THE NAME OF GOD, WOULD SOMEONE SUPPORT CORNYN INSTEAD OF PAXTON???
This is too important to play games. Cornyn is, I don’t know, too OLD?, too establishment?, whatever he is ...his time is up.
If you want to celebrate Cprnyn’s work in the past...okay, but don’t pretend he has not deteriorated. Look at his last interview on Newsmax.
Oh, Trump will stop it, alright.
By endorsing Ken Paxton.
Machinations of the Deep State at work.
In Texas primaries, voters are allowed to chose which party primary to vote in.
Senate needs to change its Thune.
Pres. Trump should smile and sit this one out. By doing so he may get a few more MAGAish votes out of Cornyn before the people of Texas throw his RINO ASS OUT!
Thune - RINO Pence of Schiff.

No F’n Way!

Fine, have Cornyn withdraw.
Don’t tell we’re stuck in a Graham quagmire where the Dems control who the Republicans nominate.
To paraphrase “Fake Eyelashes” Crockett...Let’s Roll.
‘All that has added up to one overriding fear: that a Texas Senate GOP primary could end up costing their party at least $100 million’
Why fight it? Texans will respond it appears; the reason for concerns of Dem uprising is current RINOs running Texas not standing against the crimes being committed by illegal voters and illegal squatters in the state.
Makes no sense there needs to be a fight if Paxton appears to be favored to such a great degree.
I agree. Why maintain someone like Cornyn? Why not let the electoral process ride him out of town on a rail, even if it costs $100 million dollars to do so?
It is a win in the end.
