The scene was similar to dozens of other gun buyback events held at the Catholic parish, where more than 5,100 guns have been exchanged for gift cards over the past 19 years, more than any other location in the city.
That day was marked by excitement, confusion and ultimately chaos after one cop inventorying the weapons at a police station noticed something unusual. A Glock handgun that cops had been admiring was missing.
A tag identifying the gun had been slipped onto another one, and an envelope for that gun was soon found in the trash. In an office full of cops assigned to inventory the guns and keep them secure, someone had walked off with the Glock.
Police say they found the stolen gun nearly a year later after chasing down a 16-year-old boy. He had allegedly been pulling on car door handles in South Shore, about 5 miles from the church.

Can’t trust the cops at all.
And it happened just that one time. Weirdest thing. One in a million. Probably never happen again.
buying back something that someone else bought is not even remotely a buy back. liberals love their meaningless and/or twisted catchphrases that they believe resonate with the general public but only a moron cannot seem through their bullqwap.
Polygraphs all around.
Like Cash for Clunkers.
More like ‘destroy middle class and the lower class by removing main forms of reliable transportation and their parts so America can be ‘BBB’ in a way that will push everyone into an even lower socioeconomic group’.
I glock it................
Like Cash for Clunkers
Destroyed a couple of small used car dealers I know.
I follow mainstream news closely. And they say everything bad is due to either Trump or Climate Change.
Trump has no real connection to Chicago. So I’m guessing Climate Change here.
Except it did happen before in 2017 per the article. A couple of dirty cops is all it takes to destroy any trust. Guessing this cop normally steals guns from people on the street and lets them go rather than arresting a felon with a gun but just could not resist this prize.
“I’ll take ‘institutionalized corruption’ for $500, please”.
Cops having a “Cold Piece” or throw down is as old as gunpowder.
And to think so many back the blue no matter what.
Sounds like a crime of opportunity.
“buybacks” are insanity. No effect on crime, pay someone to destroy valuable property.
The real purpose is propaganda: “Guns are bad. Turn them in to the police.”
You don’t REALLY think all those valuable guns turned in to the police are destroyed do you? Only the junk guns go into the furnace.
Decades ago I saw several S&W Model 39 at a dealer at the Tulsa gun show. Both were stamped “Property of Chicago Police dept.” This was when Chicago dumped their 39s for better ones.
Our county sadly melts down confiscated firearms. I went to a police auction in a neighboring state of confiscated goods.
Dull, slow as furniture was being sold. Then about noon something like an electric charge ran through the crowd and they surged toward the gun table! I saw junk guns sell for more than new guns! The people seemed to go crazy with bidding wars! I could not believe my eyes!
I later talked to a local pawn dealer who had lots of guns for sale. He had been to an auction and hoped to buy some cheap. He told me he wished he had loaded up every gun he had ant took them to the auction as he saw the same craziness take place there.
Pricksters “cops”. There’s no telling what happened. Sounds like fun though. The Chicago Cops giving out Glocks instead of teddy bears. Operation Teddy Bears must have flopped.
I traded my Ford F150 Extended cab for a Hyundai and the F150 was in good shape. Instead of a young person getting a decent work truck, they cemented the engine and to your point, ruined the used car market.
The Pastor of St. Sabina Catholic Church is the notorious left wing activist and lunatic, Father Michael Pfleger. He is the same religious figure who joined the radical extremist Reverend Jeremiah Wright to promote Barack Obama in 2016.
No surprise that the gun theft occurred at St. Sabina’s.
It's a Glock. It's as admirable as a socket wrench.
” investigators decided it would be “difficult and unwise” to question everyone involved “
In the old days, we called that “police work”. I guess that’s not how they do it today, smh!
