EU 'prepares to hit Elon Musk with potential $1 BILLION fine for breaking disinformation laws'

European Union regulators are preparing to hit Elon Musk's X platform with a huge fine which could surpass $1billion for breaking disinformation laws, insiders have reportedly revealed.

The move would likely to ratchet up tensions between the EU and United States, with tech billionaire Musk a close adviser to President Trump.

The social media platform could also face forced product changes for failing to abide by the landmark law to combat illicit content and disinformation, sources told the New York Times.

The penalties are expected to be announced this summer, the sources said, and will be the first to be issued under the new EU law which aims to force social media companies to police their services.

The investigation into X was opened in 2023 and officials issued a preliminary ruling last year stating that the platform had violated the Digital Services Act.

The fine could be significant in an effort to deter other tech companies from violating the law. ***

Amid escalating tensions between the EU and US over trade, authorities decided to push ahead with the probe, the source reportedly added.

'We have always enforced and will continue to enforce our laws fairly and without discrimination toward all companies operating in the EU, in full compliance with global rules,' a spokesman for the European Commission said***.

The platform also faces a second investigation by the EU which has a broader scope, with officials said to be gathering evidence that X's hands-off approach to policing user content has made it a hub of illegal hate speech.

It could face further penalties if it is found to be inadequately dealing with hate speech, disinformation and other material that is seen to be undermining democracy in the EU, two sources said. ***

From the persecution of Le Pen, who is now banned from running for election, to the nullification of the 2024 Romanian election where a right wing populist won- he is now banned from running to office. Europe is again returning to authoritarianism.

It begs the question, “As a member ofNATO, what are we defending?” It certainly isn’t freedom or democracy.

Disinformation means disagreeing with the power elites and proving them wrong.

What is “disinformation”? It is whatever the neofascists want it to be.

So if they want ya, they got ya.

What specifically is the EU claiming was misinformation? I hate all these vague accusations.

On a ‘free-speech’ platform such as X, I’m sure much is said by ordinary people that is untrue, unwise, and insensitive, but that’s exactly what free speech is.

The answer to speech that you don’t like or that you disagree with has always been and forever will be more free speech, not less.

Once you start censoring people, even from saying crazy and offensive stuff, you get on a slippery slope that leads to only “government approved” opinions. It’s an ugly road that must be avoided at all costs. Shame on the EU.

The lawfare, the outlawing of freedom of speech, the banning of candidates from seeking political office--all are a return to the Third Reich.

The more Europe struggles to be liberal and tolerant, the more she shackles herself with illiberality and intolerance.

Europe is trapped in the quicksand of Decadence--the Decadence of Western Civilization--and cannot find a pathway to escape. Indeed, Europeans have lost the will to escape. Sadly, Americans cannot depend on Europeans.

The American People elected Donald Trump to the Presidency to escape the Decadence. Wise Europeans will follow America's pathway and save themselves and the rest of Europe.

“Disinformation” like “throwing our political opponents in jail is wrong” and “we can’t cancel elections just because we don’t like the results”. Happening right now in the EU dictatorship.

Tommy Robinson is in prison for releasing a documentary exposing corruption in the UK justice system. A single judge had deemed it ‘inaccurate’ and had ordered him not to show it. After release, the judge, without a jury, sentenced TR to 18 months in prison...for a CIVIL, not criminal, violation. It has 161M+ views on X. It is clear that the government lied, paid people off, supported by a willing media, and is punishing TR for exposing it. The real frightening part, people watch the media and are told “he broke the law, just a criminal”...and they believe it is, therefore, justified. They have no understanding of how to be free.

When the government gets to decide what is ‘disinformation’ you have no ‘free press’. Again, the UK/EU thinks it can just cross borders with their legal system.
