The Trump administration threatened on Thursday to withhold federal funding from public schools unless state education officials verified the elimination of all programs that it said unfairly promoted diversity, equity and inclusion.
In a memo sent to top public education officials across the country, the Education Department said that funding for schools with high percentages of low-income students, known as Title I funding, was at risk pending compliance with the administration’s directive.
The memo included a certification letter that state and local school officials must sign and return to the department within 10 days, even as the administration has struggled to define which programs would violate its interpretation of civil rights laws. The move is the latest in a series of Education Department directives aimed at carrying out President Trump’s political agenda in the nation’s schools.
At her confirmation hearing in February, Education Secretary Linda McMahon said schools should be allowed to celebrate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But she was more circumspect when asked whether classes that focused on Black history ran afoul of Mr. Trump’s agenda and should be banned.
“I’m not quite certain,” Ms. McMahon said, “and I’d like to look into it further.”
More recently, the Education Department said that an “assessment of school policies and programs depends on the facts and circumstances of each case.”

Another good policy. Glad Trump is taking the bull by the horns this term, last time he hardly addressed the failed gov’t schools.
Starve them chilluns!
I like to think I keep up with what is going on, and I knew about DEI, but I had no clue how colossal it is; it permeates every nook and cranny of this culture, I mean it is imposed on this country.
Pronto.
If you use race to make decisions, you’re a racist and the money goes away.
This is easy.
So the same conditions the fed always has had for its money. Follow the rules set forth or you won’t get your funds. This has been the case for decades but now it’s Trump we’ll portray it as nefarious and bad
Trump is just warming up on his assault on the festerjng pustule of higher ed. He’s going to bust their indoctrination business up.
Education should be as close to free as possible and it’s completely feasible now. Eff these clown shows full of foreign agitators and anti-American idiots.
Thats PRESIDENT Trump
And as for black history month...Teach the CONSTITUTION and the BIBLE.
Trump will withhold state education funds, leftists will go crying to their designated leftist black robes, and an edict will be issued telling Trump what to do.
Mark it.
I have a friend who is a professor at Washington University in St. Louis. He could have made a lot more money in industry, but he chose to work there because his kids got to go to any college they could get into tuition-free. One of his daughters is an MD, his son an engineer, and his second daughter a nurse.
He was one of the earliest victims of DEI Maoism, dating back more than twenty years, being forced to attend struggle sessions where he was shamed for his whiteness.
His kids are graduated now, but he is staying on for a few more years because his wife just got DEIed out of her job when a big, fat, angry black woman took over. She drove all the white people away and hired a bunch of unqualified black men. They have a lawsuit against her in progress. She’s also made the local news for her activities.
“...when a big, fat, angry black woman took over.”
That particlar type is getting more and more popular, evidently, and they are all headed for Congress.
I've had people who bring this very topic up in our financial small group. I ask them to detail the math to make sure it's the wisest decision to stay at that employer for that benefit. First off: kudos to your friend and his "kids" for picking good majors/specialties. If ever there are cases for going to college it's those kind of careers (as well as my BS in computer science, throwing that out there by the way LOL).
The next thing to consider is that the employer benefit of tuition free (or half off tuition, of whatever level) is a taxable benefit. So if your friend was in the 12% or 22% tax bracket, think of the benefit as being only 88% or 78% of the savings (after accounting for the increase in income tax).
Finally, consider the tax credits for paying for college/grad school. One is $2,500 per year per student for the first 4 years of college. The other is the lifetime learning credit. Both the AOTC and LLC have income limits, so they may not apply to the parent anyway. Also, even if you get the employer tuition freebee benefit, you may have to pay $2,500 per year anyway in other expenses besides tuition (i.e. books, dorm) so you may get the tax credit and the employee benefit (win-win). So sit down and see either way before saying yay or nay on if it's best for you to stay working for the university.
Some people who sit down and do the math above realize that there's no financial gain for staying at the university. Especially if we're talking about staying for many years just to get 4 or 6 years' worth of that benefit.
He should have talked to you about it thirty years ago.
For some people who do the research it's a good benefit. For others, it turns out to be not so great.
I knew that. I just wish he had talked to you about it thirty years ago. I have questioned him about it many times over the years. He has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. I am sure he could have done better things with it.
I still don’t see why the federal taxpayers are funding local schools.
Federal taxes flow from state taxpayers to the feral government, the tax revenue goes to a federal agency, the federal agency deducts it's overhead for the salaries of bureaucrats and sends whatever is left over back to the states.
How else can you have a well-paid federal bureaucracy?
It may be that with his PHD came submersion into an academic culture for so long finishing his studies that it was hard for him to perceive life outside of that. It’d be like telling one of us code jockeys to try other TV shows besides Star Trek after years of talking with each other about mainly those shows. lol
What a great model. All skim.
