Nearly 60 percent of Americans disagree with President Trump’s handling of tariffs and trade negotiations two months into his second term, a new poll found, amid Trump’s escalating trade wars with Canada, Mexico and China.
The sentiment surrounding Trump’s economic policies was the lowest among areas surveyed in the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll released Monday, while Trump received considerably higher marks on his sweeping immigration crackdown.
Just 38 percent of respondents said they approve of Trump’s approach to trade negotiations with other countries, while 40 percent said they agree with his handling of the economy overall. Comparatively, half of respondents said they agree with the president’s immigration policies, which have included mass deportations and other efforts to crack down on both legal and illegal immigration.

I doubt it was honest sampling.
Consider the source....
60% of the liberal/leftist/communists that The Hill asked disagree with Trump...
There!!!! Fixed it...
The media is very powerful.
More to the point, who cares?
It’s a “Hill” survey so 70% approve of the tariffs if you do the biased math.
Brainwashed by instant gratification media and not understanding macroeconomic long term benefit
It could very well be bad sampling but it could also be a lack of understanding of the public.
I’ve had this discussion with a few people, they have no idea that the US accepts pretty much good or service from any other country without any tariffs but 90% of other countries have tariffs on US products going into their country.
When Trump implements these tariffs, it runs counter to what the American public has been told for decades about free trade, so they are understandably nervous about something they know very little about.
40% of the 60% couldn’t define what a tariff is and how it can be used.
Cannot discount the built-in ignorance of any polling group.
Ah, the Americans.
A very economically astute people. /s
If another country will reduce or eliminate its tariffs on us, we will reciprocate (i.e., do the same).
Because our edumacation system sucks. They don’t teach the 3 R’s and history anymore. It is all about tampons in boys’ room, girls are as strong as men, and safe spaces.
I worry about tariffs because smoot holly or whatever. They say tariffs caused the Great Depression. I am also smart enough to know that Trump knows more about this than I do and more than most people, and also if he has a gut instinct I would follow right along. The thing about the smoot holly is that today is not the same as then. America was manufacturing much more and the lack of market for exports is what made the depression happen. Now we have no exports. We borrow and print money to pay for the goods we import and we have our exports tariffed by the other countries. This is a very bad position to be in. We don’t have the industry to build enough weapons to fight a conventional war. We only have a nuclear arsenal and we don’t have the will to use it.
The jumping around on negotiations for this has hurt the messaging, because the move well-explained is a winner.
Because it’s the Hill with 100% DEMOCRAT audience, an alternate headline could be “ 40% of all Democrats approve of Trumps Tariffs!”
They asked like 30 people in NYC...
The Hill....nuff said
Educating the drooling masses as to what is being done in their favor is necessary, and hasn’t been done too well so far.
Hard to believe that anyone gives a crap about being fair to the poor, pitiful Chinese Commutards. But that’s what the Enemedia has been telling them to think. “It’s racist to put up tariffs against them”. Or something like that.
Beyond hilarious. Oh Noes! We’ll get jobs that pay good money! Noooo! We don’t want that!
One of the ways to skew polls is to shop location then play sampling games.
But yeah, most people have no idea that fuel is taxed at least 4 times before it even gets to the pump.
