World 3 of 4 U.S. soldiers missing in Lithuania found dead, Army says By Alex Sundby Updated on: March 31, 2025 / 11:44 AM EDT / CBS News
Three U.S. soldiers who had been at the center of a recovery mission in Lithuania for nearly a week after their armored vehicle sank in a body of water were found dead Monday, the Army said. Efforts were continuing to find the fourth soldier.
The soldiers' identities were being withheld pending notification of their next of kin, the Army said in a statement Monday. The three soldiers found Monday were assigned to the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division.
The soldiers went missing last Tuesday while conducting a mission to repair and tow an immobilized tactical vehicle.

PRAYERS!
What the heck are we even doing there? Those people do not need us there.
They died for someone else’s freedom.
M88 Hercules ?

One reason the Roman Empire collapsed is they felt the need to be everywhere. Same can be said about the British Empire.
And now America, too. We’ve got to be involved in (insert name of region) or bad things will happen. It remains to be seen if Trump can change that impulse.
A tank recovery vehicle, a very powerful tow truck, very heavy.
Sunk like a stone in a bog.
Did the Romans have a Military Industrial Complex that kept all of them in the gravy (as well as all the politicians)? It’s very pernicious today because of all the interconnected graft in the MIC and Congress.
You have an excellent point. Instead of trying to be everywhere improve and defend what you got!
They do not identify the vehicle in this article. They do show something that looks like a dozer, but because I do not have an account its view is rather obscured on purpose.
I’m guessing #4 is also dead, probably tried escaping, didn’t make it.
Our armed forces train all over the world in just about any terrain or weather possible. Being in the military, training to fight and defend in any situation is a very dangerous occupation. Not for the weakling or feint of heart. Most warriors accept and invite the most rigorous training possible. Most also enjoy visiting exotic and foreign places as I did over 50 years ago. Places we would never be able to go to and do things as a civilian. It is an adventure very few will experience in their lifetime. And all on uncle sams dime. Being in the military is more than just being patriotic, it is also a chance of adventure of a lifetime. Not everybody makes it back home.
Yes. I tend to agree. Just because we don’t want to immerse ourselves in every single conflict doesn’t mean we need to retreat into a shell.
Your post is a good one, it resonated with me.
Thank you. Sometimes the rhetoric gets so antimilitary.
There were lots of places I “shouldn’t have been to”—according to someone’s politics, but I was.
We called them “tank retrievers”.
Floating peat bog.
How many times ive been on them i cant count.
Break through and go under and you are done.
Excellent post. Couldn’t agree more. I work in Europe supporting the best warfighters in the world. While I don’t agree with many of our positions and think we should focus elsewhere, eastern Europe (especially the Baltics) is one area we are needed. They, like Poland, have felt the grind for centuries.
well said......................
M88, armored recovery vehicle, it’s used for retrieving damaged Abrams tanks.
