Today marks exactly 26 years since NATO began its bombing campaign against what was then the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. This may be one of the few facts on which both Serbs and Albanians can agree—along with the shared grief over their respective losses. For one side, it was an act of aggression against a sovereign European country, carried out without UN Security Council approval. For the other, it was a humanitarian intervention aimed at halting apartheid and genocide.
NATO representatives justified the airstrikes, stating they were meant to prevent crimes committed by Milošević’s regime, a message they reiterated strongly last year at this time. In Pristina, there is gratitude; among Serbs, the predominant sentiments are bitterness and anger. Commemorations Across Serbia
The official state commemoration began at 10 AM at the Monument to children killed in the NATO bombing in Tašmajdan Park, where acting Foreign Minister Marko Đurić laid a wreath.
At noon, the opposition Freedom and Justice Party also laid wreaths at the same monument.
In Belgrade’s Rakovica district, at 11 AM, the President of the Belgrade City Assembly, Nikola Nikodijević, paid tribute at the „Messenger from Straževica“ memorial.
In Prokuplje, the observance began in the morning at the „Ratko Pavlović Ćićko“ barracks, where wreaths were placed on a memorial plaque honoring Boban Nedeljković, the first soldier killed in the NATO bombings. This town was the site of the first NATO missile strikes, targeting the barracks.
At 11 AM, wreaths were laid at the Monument to Soldiers Killed in the Wars of 1990-1999 by family members of fallen fighters, representatives of Prokuplje’s local government, the Serbian Armed Forces, the Toplica District Administration, the Prokuplje Police Department, and various organizations.

26 years later..... it still seems like a local family fight that peacekeepers should have squashed in a week. 101st airborne and 10th mountain division should have made both sides have a ton of sleepless nights.
Yeah, but they’re not talking about Monica.
One of the darkest periods in European history. Europeans slaughtering Europeans to carve out an Islamic state in the heart of Europe. Despicable monsters.
Heartbreaking.
The real war criminals were clinton, hillary, Halfbright, Blair, etc.
Memory Eternal to all who died in clinton’s war!
One wonders what kind of deep-state corruption, money-laundering or any other kind of political operations are run through the black-hole that is Kosovo.
Milošević was made the patsy for defending his country against the aggression of Islamic terror. Bill Clinton and General Wesley Clark should both have been prosecuted for murder for what they did to the Serbs. On their own they had the Serbian people carpet bombed thus destroying the Serbian infrastructure and thousands of Serbs died and starved. I married into a Serbian family and they were outraged by what Clinton did. But it got Monica and him off of the front pages. The slimy POS.
It is probably used as a pathway to run drugs and sex slaves maybe a few arms.
I hated what Clinton and that hag Madeline half-bright did to Serbia. This is when I found and joined Free Republic.
Agree
Nice to hide behind a moniker. But "defensive" NATO wasn't defensive, and this, during the Clinton administration and involving some Norwegian AF assets, lasted over two months of "defensive operations."
NATO -- and the EU, as well as Russia, China and Iran -- is not a friend to these United States as of today.
Stop money -- as we've done with USAID -- and watch how easily "friendship" dissolves. Just like the word "defense" when bombing daily dissolves into a fig leaf.
I was always motivated by my detestation for the Serbian state. Their terrorism on Austria resulted in a kingdom for the Serbs that was many times larger than original Serbia.
“26 Years Later: The Impact of the NATO Bombing on Serbia and Kosovo”
I first became a conservative after Jimmy Carter threatened to pull our troops out of South Korea (for being a bit harsh on Soviet-sponsored ‘protesters’), knowing full well that meant the North rolling over them. I guess Jimmy thought that the Norks were better for human rights than the South Koreans
I first learned that the US was NOT always a force for good when we bombed the shit out of Serbia for simply wanting to hold their country together. Before that it was Bosnia and that one got me wondering just why they hell were we doing that - something that I still don’t know, other than all our bombings in what was once Yugoslavia was of Christians.
I now know that the cabal of Democrats, RINOs, and maybe ‘mainstream’ Republicans are, very often, a force for EVIL in the world, with Syria being the latest, but also Libya, Iraq (when we stayed there instead of leaving), Ukraine (of course), and many others. About the ONLY THING we still get right is Israel.
We bombed mostly civilian targets from 15,000 feet for 75 straight days. It was a very shameful period for America.
Same here. I went searching for the truth on what was really happening and not what the news was reporting. Ended up at FR.
I cannot believe that has been 26 years. It is sad what happened to Serbia-“.
Serbian bombing ping
Complete muslim bend over lovefest.
