Corn syrup is terrible, but easier to transport and use, so that is why it dominated the market. Ethanol started as a project under Bush to show we could be fuel independent (so they said), and it became a monstrous money machine for many senators and other people. They always vote down on getting rid of it. Big money...Hard on older equipment, but they don't care.
