Ekrem Imamoglu, the Mayor of Istanbul, was arrested by Turkish authorities days before he was set to be selected as a presidential candidate. Imamoglu is speculated to be one of the strongest political rivals of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Prosecutors have accused Imamoglu of corruption and links to terrorist groups, labeling him a "criminal organization leader suspect." In a crackdown, 100 people, including politicians, journalists, and businessmen, were arrested, according to a report by the BBC.

Imamoglu responded in a post online by saying “The will of the people cannot be silenced.” He uploaded a video of police outside his home and stated he would “stand resolute” for the people of Turkey "and all who uphold democracy and justice worldwide.” Imamoglu also uploaded a handwritten note on X where he said that the Turkish people would respond to "the lies, the conspiracies and the traps” placed against him.

Erdogan learned from the Ottoman sultans.
Who he wished he could openly imitate!

The more NATO countries do this and what they did in Romania the more likely the United States is to bail on Europe (and Turkey).

After all if they aren’t democratic and won’t defend themselves against third world invaders, even when they rape their daughters, there’s really not much we can do for them.

Ahh, another nation discovers that Democracy all by itself does not solve the problem, unless your mobs are bigger than the bad guy’s mobs. And elections are pointless if an Evil force makes the rules and enforces them with violence or outright rewriting the rules. See Venezuela for one recent example if the former and all of the EU practically for the latter where the popular victorious candidate is forced to grovel before parlimentary “betters” who combine to create a monopoly on real governing power. They look on voter hopes and dreams as dog droppings.

So you’re saying that we should by the Netherlands?

Actually might solve a few big problems and find trillions of U.S. taxpayer dollars if we could DOGEify the Hague and EU accounts. Probably money back to the real royals, hapsbergs, and Holy Roman Empire.

He’s a megalomaniac who sees himself as a great conquering sultan.

This is interesting.
Israeli TV Channel 14 reported that 700 terrorists from Syria entered Turkey to suppress protests.

I asked a friend in Turkey about this… they cautiously replied they couldn’t say anything as all social media is closely monitored. FWIW…

Turkey should have been bounced from NATO years ago. Erdogan has been openly hostile to Israel and openly friendly to Putin. He’s tryin to surpass the Iranian mullahs as leaders of the Middle Eastern muzzie world.

One claim is that internet in Turkey has been shut down. Photos and vids floating around of mass demonstrations and chaos. Could Erdogan go before Khameini?

Erdogan learned from Biden.

Erdogan is a thug. He and hussein obama were tight. After obama was elected, the first international call me made was to Erdogan.

obama was on the same page with Erdogan. Erdogan staunchly backed the Muslim Brotherhood during the Egyptian crisis (Arab spring). They were together on Iran. Erdogan wanted to see Assad removed where he could move into Syria. The thug has his hand in all the chaos in the middle east.

But Erdogan has systematically removed any secular opposition from the military and the civilian government over the past two decades.
