Jury finds Greenpeace must pay hundreds of millions in case over Dakota Access protest activities

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota jury on Wednesday found Greenpeace liable for defamation and other claims brought by a pipeline company in connection with protests against the Dakota Access oil pipeline.

The nine-person jury awarded Dallas-based Energy Transfer and its subsidiary Dakota Access hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.

The lawsuit had accused Netherlands-based Greenpeace International, Greenpeace USA and funding arm Greenpeace Fund Inc. of defamation, trespass, nuisance, civil conspiracy and other acts.

When asked if Greenpeace plans to appeal, Senior Legal Adviser Deepa Padmanabha said, “We know that this fight is not over.”

Padmanabha added that the organization’s work “is never going stop,” responding to questions about whether the damages amount would end Greenpeace in the United States.

“That’s the really important message today, and we’re just walking out and we’re going to get together and figure out what our next steps are,” Padmanabha said.

An email sent to spokespeople for Energy Transfer was not immediately returned.

“The work of Greenpeace is never going to stop. That’s the really important message today, and we’re just walking out and we’re going to get together and figure out what our next steps are,” Padmanabha added.

Wouldn’t it be nice if these EnviroNazis would just disappear?

“””A North Dakota jury on Wednesday found Greenpeace liable”

A liberal doosh organization like Greenpeace will never win in that area. Good news.

"Wouldn’t it be nice if these EnviroNazis would just disappear?"

First, they needs to be squeezed for the last penny of the $650+ million.

Not going to get it from USAID. But, they still could get it from the $20b the EPA gave away to political NGOs for grifting. But that is tied up in court at the moment and Zeldin is working hard to claw it back, thank goodness.

There probably won’t be a nickel available anywhere. Any organization facing a risk like this has probably protected every asset it has behind unbreakable legal walls.

Wonder if DOGE can investigate Greenpeace. They are always involved in activities that are in some nature assaultive or violent.

Another one of those groups that says ‘Peace’ in their name and ‘Green’ as if they are all about protecting the earth but they are commie like in their behaviors. I would not be surprised if they were a front for something else, something clandestine.

That is how they raise money. They will not ever admit the fight is over.

Maybe North Dakota is where conservatives should start filing suits and asking for TROs against Democrats. Two can play the same game.

good, now go after the nuts who hunt down whaling vessels and sue them for another 100 million. THEN get Trump to slap them with RICO charges on top of it!

“They got a boat.”

Free and clear or rented from some company? If I’d set them up, there would be dozens of companies and leases. Each one would be a nightmare to seize and by the time you got around to it, the paperwork and ownership would all have changed again. That’s how this works.

You have a great point!!!!!

Wow!!!! We walk on eggshells amongst these mentally ill people who take advantage of our wanting to’ turn the other cheek’ or ‘reach across the aisle’ and they abuse us to no end.

If you can sue an employer for a hostile workplace, why can’t we sue the DNC for creating a hostile environment????!!!!
