U.S. Customs and Border Protection awarded the first (new) border wall contract of President Donald J. Trump’s second term to construct approximately seven miles of new border wall in Hidalgo County (Rio Grande Valley Sector). (several other previous contracts that had been halted by Biden, have already restarted construction)

The contract was awarded to Granite Construction Co. for $70,285,846.

According to a CBP release, the contract is funded by CBP’s 2021 fiscal year funds. Its purpose according to CBP is to “close critical openings in the border wall that were left incomplete due to cancelled contracts during the Biden Administration.”...

...The contract comes as the Department of Homeland Security attempts to implement Trump’s “Securing our Borders” and “Declaring a National Emergency at the Southern Border of the United States” executive orders.

This is the first new award of this Trump Presidential term in office, but still using the money that had been appropriated during the first.

We need Congress to appropriate one lump sum to complete the wall - no more slow rolling the effort.

Spot on. I recall during the last Administration, you were the source of a lot of excellent information on border walls!

I hope to see a repeat performance in spades!

Why do I think Trump’s people know what they’re doing?? Let’s use up that money first.

Four billion to Israel to protect its borders and 600 million dollars for our border wall. Priorities, priorities…

Repurpose the 40 billion from USAID and you could fund 570 miles of the wall. In two years that is over 1100 miles of wall. But remember they could not find money for it last time Trump was the president.

This time around, things will happen a lot faster.

All of the design is complete - no prototype flyoffs.

All of the contract wording and specifications have been developed - just cut and paste. In many cases (like the US Army Corps of Engineers) standing contracts already exist, against which task orders can be quickly awarded.

Contractors are now already experienced, proven performers at delivering to the specs.

All of the studies and analysis to justify and prioritize each mile of the border have already been done during President Trump’s first term.

Just add money.

Last year, Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) introduced legislation that would require unobligated COVID-19 funds be used to finish building the wall.

Construction funding is typically five year money (five years to execute it). Congress just needs to do this once.

Fund the Wall.

It takes 10 Million dollars per mile? Doesn’t that seem a bit expensive?

“Repurpose the 40 billion from USAID”

More than enough.

That $40 Billion is itself just a small fraction of the trillion dollars in saving that DOGE is aiming to save this year.

Tariffs alone might be able to provide enough new revenue.

It is just a matter of political will.

The first time around, President Trump was an unknown, never having held public office before. Even reasonable men wanted some assurance before shoveling billions into a new project.

This time, performance is well proven, and all the significant realistic concerns have been thoroughly addressed.

Just add the money, and watch the miles fly. In a few months from funding (I’d guess about six) we would be ramping up to full speed, with the big construction firms all back at work, and racing each other to earn the next award.

I actually walked along the border wall in Hidalgo County last year - and through one of the large gaps. It should be an effective barrier once the gaps are filled in

The “Inflation reduction act” has a lot of money to be used.
I cannot see any better way to reduce inflation that building the wall!
