'Do you have communist links?' US sends 36 questions to UN aid groups
BBC News ^ | March 15, 2025 | by Imogen Foulkes

United Nations aid agencies have been sent questionnaires by the US asking them to state if they have "anti-American" beliefs or affiliations.

Among the 36 questions on the form, sent by the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and seen by the BBC, is one asking if they have any links to communism.

Some of the world's biggest humanitarian organisations have received the questionnaire, including the UN Refugee Agency and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Many of the UN aid agencies who were sent the form receive funding, not just from USAID, but directly from the US government.

One question asks: ''Can you confirm that your organisation does not work with entities associated with communist, socialist, or totalitarian parties, or any party that espouses anti-American beliefs?"

Another asks agencies to confirm they don't receive any funding from China, Russia, Cuba or Iran - these countries may not be Washington's best friends but, like all 193 UN member states, they fund the big humanitarian agencies.

Other questions ask aid agencies to ensure no project includes any elements of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) or anything related to climate change.

The UN aid agencies believe the questionnaire misunderstands their core principles of neutrality and impartiality - that people suffering because of war or natural disaster should be helped regardless of political beliefs, and that aid should not be used as a tool to strengthen one particular nation.

UN Human Rights has already chosen not to fill out the form.

"Given they were mostly yes/no questions with very limited room for elaboration, and that some of the questions were not applicable to the UN, we were not in a position to reply directly to the online questionnaires," a spokesperson told the BBC.

Most of the world is anti-American and, at a minimum, supportive of communism.

We need to re-shore our manufacturing, promote Autarky, drop out of international organizations and stop foreign military entanglements. Isolationism? Yes, please.

When my Brother-in-law’s brother died, and his house was cleaned out, a copy of Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto was found. And he was a big Democrat.

the ties to communism AND to the IslamoNazi regimes and terrorist murder gangs

are ALL very very very important to eliminate from USA.

(but just asking them to say Yes is a bit naive, imho... a real commie or Arab terrist will say YES, I am??????? It has been alleged that even SorozNazi didn’t confess his ties to the German Nazi occupation forces in Hungary when he applied for entry into USA?)

Meh. The Manifesto is an important item of mid-1800's sociopolitical philosophy, so I wouldn't be too worried about it -- if that was the only thing. OTOH if you found leaflets from Commie political groups, or anything that indicates high interest, participation, or membership in Commie groups, that's something else entirely.

Hell, I have a copy of Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals". It comes in handy in dealing with Leftist idiots. Respected Conservative writers quote from it regularly. Is that a problem in your estimation?

Not a problem at all. It’s always best to know your enemy. As for my Brother-in-law’s brother, I’m pretty sure if he wasn’t a full blown commie, he had socialist leanings.

And I seem to recall that Patton read Rommel's book on strategy, hence his famous quote, "Rommel you magnificent bastard, I read your book!"

UN.. with neutrality and impartiality in same sentence…

It’s like PBS and CNN declaring them pselves to be unbiased news..

Maybe thi I te first step in getting out of the UN.. or cutting our $$ to the average country contribution.

Im pretty sure you would find “enemy” publications if you searched my home.
Only a fool does not study the opposition in order to know how best to defeat him/her/them.

The purpose of having the publications is the important factor.

I’m sure I must still have a copy of the Manifesto somewhere on my bookshelves. It was required reading for Soc I and I kept all my college books. Always Republican and always read it that way.

The state of Georgia used to have a long list of organizations that were prohibited for employees, ranging alphabetically from the Albanian Students Association to the Yugoslav Seamen’s Association. If you checked yes for having had membership in any of those, you needed to look for work somewhere else.

The US needs a similar list of NGOs.
