In yet another stunning example of government waste, the Biden administration’s $3 billion scheme to convert the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) has delivered nothing but empty promises, skyrocketing costs, and a mere 93 vehicles out of the planned 50,000.
Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Representative Michael Cloud (R-Texas) are leading the charge against reckless taxpayer-funded disaster.
They introduced the Return to Sender Act, a bill aimed at clawing back the unspent billions that were funneled into the failed USPS EV initiative under Biden’s so-called Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
“Biden’s $3 billion EV fleet for USPS is lost in the mail! Just 93 of 50,000 vehicles have been delivered. I am canceling the order and returning the unspent money to sender: the taxpayers!” Ernst wrote on X.
The USPS originally placed its 50,000-vehicle order three years ago, but thanks to bureaucratic mismanagement and Biden’s radical green agenda, barely 0.2% of those vehicles have made it to the streets. Meanwhile, the cost of production continues to balloon, and taxpayers are footing the bill for a non-existent fleet.

There is no way that graft, kickbacks, theft, and fraud is not involved.
Solyndra on steroids.
It was a stupid idea. First they have to replace the entire fleet. Then they have to install charging stations at every post office and sorting center. This is a $250 billion project not a $3B project.
Anyway those trucks they have been using are like tanks. Grumman LLV (long life vehicle). Been in service 40 odd years now, take tons of abuse (100s of starts and stops every day). I am sure they need to be replaced at some point, but replacing the entire fleet with electric is just absurd and obscene. Logistically very difficult and the lifespan of an EV under the conditions treated by USPS is completely unknown.
If I got my zeros correct - that’s $3,225,806 per vehicle!
Bidenskyyyyyy’s economy. 93 mail trucks for $3 Billion dollars. What a deal!!!
Going the way of the electric school buses. On the surface, they sound good - short routes, only run during the day, which allows plenty of time to recharge, less frequent and cheaper maintenance - but the reality never seemed to match the promises.
Amazing GRACE that this nation survived without DOGE until now!
Go Elon!
My SIL works for the company supplying the vehicles (Oshkosh Defense). I don’t think they care whether they are ICE or EV. Just make up your mind. They make them both. I think the drivetrain comes from Ford.
I wouldn’t say it was a waste. They probably made a bunch of cronies and family members into instant millionaires.
Where did the rest of the money go? No way that was the cost.Just another corrupt fed money laundering scheme.
Trust me, the $Billions didn’t go to Elon.
Just searched for pictures of these EVs and saw the ugliest things ever ,LOL
They're great. Until you need to take it in the shop. Then what? Replace the whole battery?
Not govt waste. Govt ‘misdirection’.
I got over 32+ million dollars per vehicle delivered. 3,000,000,000 divided by 93.
“Biden administration’s $3 billion scheme to convert the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) has delivered nothing but empty promises, skyrocketing costs, and a mere 93 vehicles out of the planned 50,000.” My mailman out here drives a gasser. No charging stations I guess.
our local USPS rural carrier is ecstatic that she got one of the new Mercedes mail trucks to replace her ancient broken down 30-year-old Grumman LLV mail truck ... the Mercedes is heated, air-conditioned, well-sprung and RELIABLE ...
EV mail trucks are a sick joke for most of the nation ...
The EV school bus fiasco in Montgomery County, MD is worth spending the 5 minutes to look it up and skim through. Long story short, they ended up getting diesel buses to replace them.
Actually they have been catching fire at a rate of one per week.
They are way beyond their lifespan and should have been replaced years ago. But the government is corrupt and incompetent.
