When I visited Israel 8 years ago I heard from some Jews that Assad was maybe the best bad guy that could be running Israel. That replacing him would almost certainly be a downgrade.
There are a few conflicts around the world with no good guys.

Jolani just signed a deal with the Kurds we have been supporting (SDF). The deal gives the Kurds formal recognition and some autonomy over the areas they control. The Kurds are doing this partially to keep American forces in Syria, but it will almost certainly, IMHO, result in the eventual exit of our forces. Based on Trump’s actions so far, maybe sooner than the Kurds expect.

For the ones that don’t know, the Kurds have been supporting America and American troops over there in the desert.
They helped us against Saddam Hussein (or SoDamnInsane, as we called him back then).
Bashar al-Assad, Muammar Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, Hosni Mubarak, the Shah of Iran . . . These are exactly the kind of thugs required to keep the radicals under control in the Middle East. Our leaders were fools to replace them with . . . what?
I’m no expert, but it sure seems from here that the U.S. uses the Kurds whenever they need them, but don’t always protect them when they need the U.S.

And yet he bombed Assad over a British false flag chemical attack that killed 21. “Democratic government” has just massacred 7,500 Shia and Christians over a couple days and Rubio removed them from a terrorist list.
