Ukrainian forces are struggling to prevent what could be a significant military setback, as their hold on the area of Russian territory they seized last year is becoming increasingly precarious.
A Russian offensive supported by North Korean troops in the past few days has made a serious advance in Russia's Kursk region northeast of Ukraine, breaking through Ukrainian positions and forcing them to withdraw to new defense lines, according to Ukrainian and Russian military bloggers. Russia is attempting to cut Ukraine's crucial supply road into Kursk, which is already under fire, meaning several thousand Ukrainian troops inside Russia are now at growing risk of encirclement.
Over the past week, Russian progress has dramatically increased, according to bloggers and Ukrainian troops on the ground, with Ukrainian troops clearly under severe pressure and forced to withdraw largely back toward the main town they control in the region, Sudzha. The Washington, D.C.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) assessed Sunday that Russian forces are "collapsing" the northern part of the Ukrainian lines in Kursk.

If they just did one more battle of the Isonzo river Cadorna would be vindicated, command is sure of it.

I wonder how many Ukrainian lives and limbs Zelensky sacrificed for his propaganda campaign in Kursk.
This will be the latest in a series of Syrskyi’s Caporettos.
Invading Russia didn’t work out for Napoleon and Hitler either.
....yikes.

Tee Hee!
305,000 Italian casualties; 70,000 Austro-Hungarian-German casualties.
Z’s only hope is that crossing the southern, wider Lokhnia will spare the remaining troops, like crossing the Piave did in 1917.
That would require nuanced tactical thinking that doesn’t currently exist in their command structure.
But, they might surprise me with something.
They are getting clobbered and they are surrendering in droves.
I’m still waiting for the “spring offensive” they were going to do two years ago.
The high-water mark for Kursk land held by Ukraine was about 1,300 sq klm. 2 days ago Ukraine held 359 sq klm.
Latest reports are that they now control about 259 klm.
The exit routes are all under fire control by Russia.
The front is reported as otherwise fairly quiet except for the Pokrovsk area, which is active.

I guess that really means, given the source, that it’s a rout of epic proportions. The largest grouping being a man with a rifle trying to walk out.
I saw drones chasing ukrainians...the drones with 1st person view...it was insane!!
3 ukrainians shooting at a drone as it was about to kill them.
A drone blowing up a door and two more flying into the building and blowing it up.
Hundreds of ukraine vehicles demolished..
Without Us intelligence, Kursks is over...even with at this point.
Horrible all the deaths but maybe more will be saved if it gets z to the table faster.
20 percent of ukraine is russian now..he’s gotta accept it.
Ukie Bros don’t care, just keep that war going!!
They’re only keyboard warriors with no skin in the game, so the deaths don’t matter, the rhetoric does.
It’s a brother war, just stop it and work out the details.
Neither country is worth another dime.
I am getting a history lesson on this thread.
There is still a Cadorna Square in Milan, along with eponymous railway and subway stations. Italians honor their generals, win or lose (of course they haven’t had many winners since Garibaldi).
My immediate reaction was to go “I’m sorry!”
Lol.
Tells you a lot about my daily experience in NY, right?
Hitler invasion was more of Ukraine to gather the mineral wealth resources there.
And Muscowy has been successfully invaded twice before, the latest in 1610.
The acceptance is the least of the issues.
The problem is that Putin wants 100%. That is why Ukrainians are fighting - because he was not satisfied with his pound of flesh in 2015 (when he grabbed 10% of Ukraine), but came back for another 10% (initially it was 20% more, and in March 2022 Putin controlled 30% of Ukraine).
