I would like to see the Church correct the record now that the slaughter of Christians in Syria has begun and condemn the genocide. May God have mercy and redeem his holy ones.

The Pope's call for peace last Sunday falls far short of a condemnation for the genocide taking place right now in Syria during Ramadan.

He made a heartfelt appeal for an end to the violence in Syria, which has resumed in that country that has already suffered from more than 13 years of civil war but is now under new rulers. “I have learned with concern of the resumption of violence in some areas of Syria,” he said. “I hope that they cease definitively, with full respect for all ethnic and religious components of society, especially civilians.”

The article writer doesn’t seem to understand the complexity of what’s going on in Syria. You have HTS and its semi-regular army, with a little equipment the Israelis didn’t blow up. Then there is a large force of militias nominally supporting Jolani, but, he doesn’t really control them, and they themselves are mostly supported by Turkey. Other groups are flat out Turkish surrogates. Then you have the former Assad supporters, mostly Alawites and some Christians, etc. Add in Hezbollah and other Shia militias. AQ is around, but mostly in the desert. Ditto for ISIS. HTS is an offshoot of AQ, but has fought AQ. Matter of fact, I can’t think of any of these groups that have not fought some of their supposed allies, except maybe the Alawites and Hezbollah. HTS has been blasting away at their “allied” militias. Sheesh!

The Druze are mostly in the south, and the Kurds are mostly NOT in the coastal areas and south either.

A while back, someone posted a diagram on FR of all this (It’s actually even MORE complex.)

The Israelis go by “divide and conquer”, and blast the strongest groups, which is fairly effective for them, but very nasty for everyone else.
