DHS Ends Collective Bargaining for TSA’s Transportation Security Officers, Enhancing Safety, Efficiency, and Organizational Agility

WASHINGTON – Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it is ending collective bargaining for the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) Transportation Security Officers, which has constrained TSA’s chief mission: to safeguard our transportation systems and keep Americans safe.

Eliminating collective bargaining removes bureaucratic hurdles that will strengthen workforce agility enhance productivity and resiliency, while also jumpstarting innovation.

Making America’s Transportation Networks Resilient Again Gaps in benefit programs, including non-verifiable Family and Medical Leave, are being exploited by a select few poor performers, placing greater burden on TSOs at the expense of American travelers and taxpayers.

This includes instances, where a TSO requested sick leave seven months in advance.

TSA has more people doing full-time union work than we have performing screening functions at 86% of our airports. Of the 432 federalized airports, 374 airports have fewer than 200 TSA Officers to preform screening functions.

Nearly 200 TSA Officers are paid by the government but work full-time on union matters. These people do not retain certification to perform screening functions. Additionally, in a recent TSA employee survey, over 60% said poor performers are allowed to stay employed and, not surprisingly, continue to not perform.

Must be nice to request sick leave 7 months in advance. And if you don't want to do the work of screening passengers, you can always work full time doing union work. I'm cautiously taking it as positive though if poor performers are terminated. It depends on their definition of "poor performers."

Of course, the devil’s always in the details. But, for now, I’ll take this as more WINNING!

If they could end this union, why not others?

Or, if they can’t end other unions, why this one?

DHS is ending collective bargaining for Transportation Security
Officers (TSO’s), which has impaired keeping Americans safe.

This includes instances where a TSO requested “sick leave” seven months in advance.

I don’t get it - what is wrong with sick leave seven months in advance? If I know I have an operation or a yearly event for something, what is wrong with putting in the request as soon as I know I need that time off? Or putting in vacation time request as soon as I decide on a date like a cruise I requested time off for six months out when I made the reservation? Or am I not understanding what is being said here?

TSA is totally useless, corrupt and should be done away with.

Yep, exactly. TSA is just cover for CIA and DSC ops. Creates public fear for a boogeyman

The whole idea of a labor union for government workers is offensive to a free republic.

People receiving a paycheck on the taxpayer's dime should be subject to the utmost scrutiny and threat of losing their jobs.

I thought similar. If it truly was for health related operation i agree with you. Though i cant think of many true health needs that could be scheduled out that far. Likely sick pay used for personal time.

What if said TSO has to have an operation done and that is the earliest date that it can be scheduled?

I always thought it illegal and put in place right after fake 9/11.

I agree I do not have an issue with sick leave request months in advance. TSA agents work 24/7 on shifts. Better to get a request in early to ensure your shift is assigned correctly. I could see this being used for procedures such as a colonoscopy.

How about having TSA agents deal with luggage only? Only deal with passengers when there is a reasonable suspicion.

The TSA is a jobs program for otherwise unemployable minorities, from what I’ve seen. Rather like what the Post Office has become.

A disgusting job. The baggage checkers did their job on 9/11 as box cutters were allowed. It’s like covid. Everyone was on lockdown and it was extended. It’s never letting a crisis go to waste. Pretty smart I’d say.

I’ve never seen 2 people on the X-ray machine. Plenty of others.

What is a reasonable suspicion? When you see the wires of the suicide bomb sticking out?
