Russian Advances in Kursk Threaten Kyiv's Only Bargaining Card

The Russian army's advance in the Kursk region against Ukrainian troops is threatening Kyiv's only territorial bargaining card at a critical time in the war, CNN reported on Sunday.

Last August, Ukraine had launched its surprising incursion into Kursk and managed to capture territory that was seen not only as a useful possession to be exchanged for Russian-occupied territory but also was a campaign that sought to divert Moscow's resources from the front lines in the east.

However, observers now say that the current Russian advances have put Ukraine in a much weaker position and are likely to become more intense, especially since Kyiv also faces a completely different diplomatic picture after President Donald Trump halted U.S. military aid and intelligence sharing, according to CNN.

In addition, the arrival of some 12,000 North Korean soldiers in Kursk has bolstered Russia's offensive operations, and Ukraine has now lost about half of the territory it once occupied in Kursk.

Reports are Russia has retaken 32 Kursk settlements, half the area that Ukraine originally occupied, and are still advancing.

Newsmax is apparently relying their own writers now, rather than news agencies.

The history books will cite the Kursk and Krinky expeditions in the same chapter as the Gallipoli Peninsula, as examples of misguided military blunders.

The MSM always makes it sound like the Ukraine fought Russia and won control of villages in the Kursk region.

Yes there was fighting but the public was evacuated and the Ukrainians ‘took control’ of empty villages, and even established an administrator for the empty territory they held.

The Ukrainians did the same thing in Khereson - the Russians withdrew and Ukrainians claimed they out fought the Russians and drove them out.’

I read yesterday that the Kursk troops (UKraine) were surrounded. Yes - that is definitely not good for Ukraine. But Putin said those UKrainian fighters were engaging in non military objectives (shooting at ambulances and civilians, attacking to reach the Kursk nuclear power plant) and therefore would not receive Geneva convention protections. I really doubt Russia will let Kursk troops live, or live outside a Siberian hard labor camp - he’ll want to ‘discourage’ further incursions by any nation into Russian territory.
So even if the Ukrainians weren’t surrounded by RUssians, Kursk was never a true point of leverage.

The only surviving soldiers that have invaded Russia have walked out with nothing.

For as long as anyone can remember.

It was never much of bargaining card. There was never any chance of Ukraine holding Kursk.

Trump's mineral deal was the only chance Ukraine had at a bargaining card.

The French will die for love.

The British will die for honor.

The Americans will die for liberty.

The Russians will die.

Reported Ukie casualties in their failed offensive are running as high as 40,000…the Ukrainian populace will have the corrupted little green goblins head on a stake for what he has done to them.

It’s more than half.

I’ve been watching footage of the battles and it’s a disaster.

3 ukrainian soldiers shooting furiously at a POV drone that was flying right at it.

It was like looking through the drone’s eyes.

They soldiers didn’t hit it.

Lots of trucks and building blown up...one drone blowing away a door..2 more flying in!!

1 drone chasing a ukrainian soldier on foot! He lost the race.

Some crazy stuff.

Sheesh.

I didn’t realize how real this war was until I saw that footage.

Question for you all?

What would happen if the Russians did one of those
movie type commando raids and captured Zelenskyy?
Would they shoot him?

I think the Russians are a little pissed at Zelensky, I think they'd waterboard him until he told 'em every detail about the Westerners that used him.

They'd probably keep him alive forever.

“Only bargaining card”

Everyone here knew that the Rooskies would just keep pounding in their invasion against a hapless neighbor until they got what they wanted, which was a buffer zone to protect their previous confiscation of their Crimean ports.

All you Rooskei fanboys can keep quiet now about your fear of NATO encroachment and how the Chechens and Georgians deserved to have the Russians take their land.

What was the purpose of the North Korean troops in Russia story to begin with?

Why did South Korean intelligence go along with the deceit?

What was the purpose of the North Korean troops in Russia story to begin with?

Mainly I believe, to justify US ATACMS attacks directly on Russian territory. The "North Koreans in Kursk" fabrication began in October 2024 and the ATACMS attacks started in November.

The primary reason I never bought the lie, other than it was sourced from Ukraine intelligence, is that North Korea would never deploy troops to a foreign country. It would be a complete violation and contradiction of juche, a founding, and important, principle of the DPRK. To deploy troops to Russia would be a terrible insult to the Great Leader and everything the country and regime stands for.
