FOR TEN DAYS, since the shouting-match in the Oval Office, Ukraine has been scorched by Donald Trump’s wrath. Now comes a moment of catharsis—or another round of brutal punishment. On February 11th America and Ukrainian delegations are due to meet in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The American side says the goal is to create “a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire”.
Yet on the Ukrainian side, amid the hope, there are fears the meeting could be a shake-down, a delaying tactic or an attempt by Mr Trump to win concessions that benefit Russia. The summit comes as Russia is escalating its military pressure on Ukraine. Drone and missile strikes are hammering Kyiv and other cities. Russian and North Korean soldiers are making a new push to eject Ukraine from Kursk, the enclave inside Russia it captured last year.

Ukraine is in denial.
There is no hope for them to recover land lost. And if they want the Russians to stop, they must concede defeat.
The only option is to die fighting.
And all the carnage that implies for the Ukrainian people.
I really don’t know why we are involving ourselves. Who really cares about Ukraine?
In the two weeks Ukes wasted listening to US rats and Europeans they have lost the one bargaining chip they had in Kursk.
Russia will be busy rebuilding the Donbas and repopulating its wrecked cities. They broke it, let them pay for it. They are war-weary too, and the cries about Putin marching to Paris are cynical political propaganda.
I checked - the article *is* dated March 9. Perhaps they mean March 11?
“Brutal”!
Oh my.
It was not a shouting match. It was 3 men having a political discussion. Apparently some people have never heard a group of men seated at a café having a political discussion. Or a group of men having a discussion about anything. Sometimes they raise their voice and speak in an animated way. Certain ethnicities speak louder than others with more gestures and more passion.
The exchange in the Oval Office was not a shouting match.
Won’t be brutal for me.
Did anybody really expect this to be easy or quick?
Ukraine is still in either Denial or Anger. Then they will be ready for Bargaining.
The other issue is the fact that the Western World is divided on what to do. Either course of action is too politically risky.
Giving Putin the chance to either take the opening or not, will clarify things.
Ukraine could have had a ceasefire by now if Zelenski had signed the document he agreed to sign. But no, he apparently wants 100,000 American infantry and 200 USAF airplanes. That’s not going to happen.
“or an attempt by Mr Trump to win concessions that benefit Russia. “
The usual lie, that supporting peace negotiations is being pro-Russia.
Did anybody really expect this to be easy or quick?
You mean other than President “I can end this one day” Trump?
You’re kidding, right? That little stuffed shirt martinet was disrespectful, obnoxious, and entitled. It was a shouting match; you don’t get thrown out of the oval office because of “3 men having a political discussion”.
Not me!
My first thought is Phuoc Yu, but then I realized you are a TDS Zeeper and not worth thinking about Yu.
Once Zelensky and his cohorts have looted all they can, the Ukrainians who are left behind will be left with a destroyed country at the mercy of vulture bankers ready put them in perpetual debt to build back even the basics.
Brutal for who? certainly not us
