Vice President Vance’s clout is on the rise, taking on the role of pot stirrer at the White House and on the world stage.
His attack dog role was on full display during an Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky when Vance confronted the foreign leader, calling him disrespectful and demanding appreciation for the billions in aid the U.S. has provided the country during its war with Russia.
Vance’s more aggressive stance – including his ruffling of feathers in Europe and a visit to the southern border – follows weeks of tech billionaire Elon Musk in the spotlight, who at times has even surpassed President Trump for attention.
“Vance had his best week since being nominated,” a source familiar with the thinking of the White House said. “Solidified himself as a go-to player with Trump and MAGA world.”
As vice president, Vance took a seat behind Trump in the House chamber during the joint address to Congress, joining in with GOP lawmakers to jeer Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) and advocate for Green’s removal from the chamber for interrupting Trump’s speech in protest.
He then traveled to the U.S.-southern border with Cabinet officials to highlight immigration, visit with patrol agents and held a press conference to talk tariffs and the border wall alongside Gov. Greg Abbott.

Trump is preparing him for the future presidency.
“The Hill’s” Alex Gangitano has an opinion
and everyone else should care about it.
This is good to hear. I don’t want Elon Musk outshining JD in every aspect
I like that he went after Europe not on policy issues but on what are supposed to be our shared values of justice and freedom and how they are not living up to them. The USA hadn’t been living up to them in recent past either, and nobody since Reagan has really advocated on these topics on the world stage and they are the core of everything. As we say in engineering, go back to first principles when attacking a tough problem.
Trump’s also demonstrating that Musk isn’t his #2.
The author is projecting on JD Vance.
He’s the one stirring the pot and he’s the one acting like an attack dog.
Yup.
Yup. I’m happy to see Vance as rhe first pro-active VP to get off his ass and get involved in the country’s state of affairs.
Yup. Which is good. Musk is Trump’s Buddy, but Vance is his VP.
>> Trump is preparing him for the future presidency.
And that’s a GOOD thing. :-)
IIRC, wasn’t it Don, Jr who suggested Vance to his dad...?
Good call.
You’re right, I’d forgotten. I think Jr and JD are maybe hunting buddies.
Star Trek TOS fans will love this one!
Yes
Maybe? We shall see. It all depends on how well that the Trump Presidency does and how well Vance himself does. So far Vance is off to a very good start.
His way of answering questions is off the charts top rate.
Let’s see. The nation will turn 250 years of age in 16 months. The big stuff will be done. Musk leaves the stage to the delight of the left and the relief of the never-Trumpers. Trump then ‘suggests’ he’ll quit after the midterms thereby turning the office over to Vance for his final 2 years. He then threatens to run again thereby filling out the 10 year limit on his office. Soil pants.
All it takes is a continued majority in the congress and 2 SCOTUS retirements.
Vance is a TREASURE!
I could not agree more!
If he stays on his current projectory it is his to lose.
Pray for him -- and Tulsi Gabbard, too. She would make the perfect VP for him if she stays on her path.
Can you imagine a world with young and sane leaders you can believe in again?
Elon Musk is first and foremost an industrialist entrepreneur. Presently, he is just helping out by assuming the task of flak jacket.
Musk is taking the hits that President Trump would be subjected to if Musk were not present.
