Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says a Ukrainian decree from 2022 ruling out negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin raises the question of who could sit at the table in potential peace talks aimed at ending their three-year war

A Ukrainian decree from 2022 ruling out negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin raises the question of who could sit at the table in potential peace talks aimed at ending their three-year war, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “is still legally prohibited from negotiating with the Russian side,” Peskov noted during his daily conference call with reporters.

This is not the first time this has been mentioned. Ukraine will have to undo that law. And it would be much easier with a different government.

No its not the first time. And yes, Ukraine needs a recognized legitimate negotiator at the table. Thats not an excuse to stall a cease fire at current lines.

This is silly!

Of course Putin can negotiate with Zelensky. Putin isn’t bound by Ukrainian law.

If so, then it was against “Ukrainian law” for Putin to intervene in Ukraine in the first place. I also don’t think killing Ukranian troops is lawful in Ukraine either.

This becomes laughable. They'll talk when the time comes for talk, if the time comes for talk. And the days go along, as lives are lost while the media points from yesterday's squirrel to tomorrow's squirrel.

Probably wouldn’t mentioning something that I don’t think has been mentioned.

Ceasing the provision of military aid has more effect than has been considered. There is talk of pipelines. There is talk of storage in Poland. So it’s not clear what that freeze can do for the weaponry.

But in terms of immediacy it would appear that it freezes information transfer of satellite reconnaissance. That’s largely more important than pretty much anything else. Forces can be concentrated and because that concentration is secret it cannot be defended.

There was some Chinese philosophy that all war is based on deception. Satellite reconnaissance erases that. But if there is no more satellites reconnaissance, deception reasserts itself.

Misinformation. The law prevents anyone other than the president from negotiating with Russia.

Zelensky needs to end this now. Concede the Donbas and Crimea. Ukraine cannot retake it by force.

Too many dying on both sides and the war is basically a stalemate.

The Russians have already pretty much rebuilt Mariupol. Getting the Russians out of there would pretty much require a World War to do it. All the aid in the world won’t matter without US Boots on the ground there. And that ain’t gonna happen.

Best you’re going to get is the demilitarize the Donbas, and guarantee the rights of the Ukrainians living there.

Agreed. The Europeans are doing Ukraine a dastardly trick by egging them on to keep fighting without any real help.

It’s not Trump that’s the bad guy.

Starmer, Macron, Scholtz, Trudeau and democrats are the bad guys.

While putting money in Putin’s coffers by buying his oil.

Trump should propose to supply Europe with their energy needs, so they can cut off the Russians.

It’s a decree. So I guess it’s a fight to the death. Bye Ukraine.

Seems to me this decree may have followed an earlier incident where Zelensky was about to approve some sort of a truce agreement with Putin and when the neocons got wind of it the killed the venture.

Russians should be careful of what they ask for, they just might get it.
