WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser said on Tuesday the Black Lives Matter Plaza near the White House will be redesigned as part of a new mural project after threats by Republicans to cut transportation funding if the plaza was not renamed.
Republican U.S. Representative Andrew Clyde introduced a bill on Monday that urged the District of Columbia to rename the Black Lives Matter Plaza or have the U.S. Congress withhold federal transportation funds. Republicans hold a majority in both chambers of Congress.
Bowser, a Democrat, has been a vocal critic over the years of Republican President Donald Trump.
The mayor ordered the creation of Black Lives Matter Plaza in 2020 when the U.S. saw large anti-racism protests following the murder of George Floyd, a Black man who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes. Bowser was criticized by Trump at the time.

How ‘bout AMERICAN LIVES MATTER?
How about NOTHING!
The always worthless media says the “white police officer knelt on his neck”.
This is typical distortion. The black criminal was jacked with drugs and died because of that.
Add a hammer and sickle but keep the rest of it as is, as a reminder of Democrats' anti-American vitriol.
“How about NOTHING!”
Amen!
Clean off that Big yellow BLM letters crap painted on the street
Yes.
How about Plaza USA?
How about government doesn't have anything to do with what name a citizen chooses to name their business? Any regulations about signage should first have to pass severe tests from the 1ST Amendment.
Black OLives Matter
I agree
Trumps turn.....MAGA Plaza
Or
J6 lives matter
I say rename it BLACK CRIMES MATTER
If it has to have a name it should be something patriotic and not divisive. Maybe Bill of Rights Plaza. (There is already a Constitution Ave. nearby.)
“Henceforth this will be known as the Rodney King Trayvon Martin George Floyd Plaza.”
