Should Good People Pray for a Malicious Pope?
Frontpage Magazine ^ | March 4, 2025 | Joseph Hippolito

As Pope Francis approaches death, millions of Catholics around the world put aside their differences with the man to pray for him. Some pray for what Catholics call a “happy death” free from mortal sin. Some pray for his return to health. Some pray for his conversion or repentance.

“It’s a sad thing to say but there should be no controversy whatsoever about people sincerely praying for the salvation of the pope’s soul,” said Frank Wright, a British Catholic journalist. “I see nothing but good intentions for that. I pray for the soul of the pope myself. It’s our duty.”

It might be a theological duty in Wright’s eyes. But is it a moral one?

As FrontPage Magazine has repeatedly reported, Francis is trying to turn the Catholic Church into a tool of globalist, materialist utopians at the expense of centuries of moral teaching, especially on homosexuality and abortion. In the process, Francis has used rhetorical duplicity to dupe well-meaning but naive Catholics while promoting his agenda.

Yes. The commie pope is a dope. He’s an heretic. Hopefully the next pope is a Catholic.

That is a good prayer to pray. In the last days, people will fall away due to confusion and error in teaching within the churches, and due to divisions, which we certainly see happening today. It will and is happening, but we should pray that it be limited as much as possible,a dn that the truly saved will remain strong in the face of increasing hostility towards christianity

It’s in the Lord’s Prayer “Thy Will Be Done”

Yes, pray for his health, physical and spiritual, and for all those in similar situations, as well as all the loved ones involved. Why wouldn’t you? Praying doesn’t mean you condone what a person says or does.

There was a TV news segment this morning of video from the Vatican that struck me as people worshipping the Pope.

I’m not Catholic but wife is. She doesn’t like him.

Personally I would classify many of his acts And public announcements as evil.
Lucifer was an Angel before falling so why couldn’t a “lowly” pope became evil as well? 🤔

I believe that as long as you’re not hurting another person, you should do whatever makes you feel at peace with yourself. If that means praying for Francis, that’s the choice that’s right for you. If it means gloating and counting the days, that’s your thing so fine and good. As for me, he just disgusts me so I’ll mostly ignore his dying until it’s over and hope the church has a better next head that helps it be a comfort and a place of moral example for its vast membership. Long live the memory of Pius XII.

No - that’s not actually a given.

Consider that Adam and Eve were to enjoy all of the garden except one tree - but God also gave them free will, so the serpent was able to lead them into sin.

If Heaven is a better place, it seems that praying for someone to go there sooner shouldn’t be considered a bad thing.

Pray that he’ll come to see the light, not for success in his evil schemes.

“...Hopefully the next pope is a Catholic.”

Unfortunately millions think he is pope, but that is impossible, as theologically it impossible for a non-catholic to hold the office of pope.
