First lady Melania Trump called out congressional Democrats during a Capitol Hill Roundtable on Monday afternoon over a bill that would criminalize the sharing of intimate imagery online without consent.
Why It Matters Monday's roundtable marks Melania's first major solo public appearance since resuming her role as first lady on January 20. She visited Capitol Hill to advocate for the "Take It Down Act," a bill aimed at criminalizing the non-consensual posting of intimate images online, including deepfakes.
If the "Take It Down Act" becomes law, social media platforms would be required to remove such images within 48 hours of a victim's request and take steps to delete duplicate content.,,,
Melania's remarks come as Representative Ro Khanna, a California Democrat, was the only Democratic lawmaker at the event...

I need to ponder the wisdom of this proposed “Take It Down” act. Seems likely to infringe on personal rights, unless there is a clear and unambiguous method to determine when the policy should be applied.
After 48 hours??? Sorry to say, while I applaud Melania for trying, I have serious doubts this can be done effectively.
Correct. It will be misapplied, applied selectively, etc. because it ultimately is a matter of personal judgment. There will be unambiguous cases, of course, but there will be far too many "gray area" cases.
I don't see this as workable without infringing on legit rights also.
I think everyone involved understands that this is impractical if not impossible and is stated only for “completeness”. On the internet, there is no “taking it back”, indeed the Streisand effect will guarantee the opposite.
the courts will strike it down as clearly unconstitutional. That's a slam dunk, and a big waste of everyone's time.
Why do the minority congressional Democrats have any power in this Congress.
Not a single proposed Democrat bill should ever be passed into law by a single GOP politician. I don’t care what flowery name they give it or how good it seems on the face of it.
Don’t let the Democrats pass a single proposed bill. Every bill passed in this session of congress should only come from Republicans.
I think everyone is thinking too much.
If someone post a picture of you in the nude or in embarrassing image (or a deep fake) …..and you don’t want it up on the Internet, you will have the right to make them take it down.
That’s all the First Lady is talking about. Makes total sense to me.
Thank you for this post.
As Lee Iacocca once said, “We are continually faced by great opportunities brilliantly disguised as insoluble problems.”

I agree this law will be difficult to develop. However, other pornography laws have made this attempt to construct
legal boundaries.
Melania Trump praised Senator Amy Klobuchar-D, for working with Senator Ted Cru-R on the bipartisan bill.
She said, “I was heartened to learn that Senator Cruz and Senator Klobuchar unified to prioritize this fundamental matter, but I must admit, however, I expected to see more Democrat leaders here today to address this serious issue. Surely, as adults we can prioritize America’s children ahead of partisan politics.”

I agree. This ‘yellow journalism’ creates this sensational information to exploit, distort, or exaggerate.

“In today’s fast-paced world, where information travels at the speed of light, the quality of that information is more crucial than ever. Unfortunately, not all news is created equal. One of the most insidious forms of misinformation is yellow journalism — a style of reporting that prioritizes sensationalism over accuracy.
This type of journalism distorts the truth, manipulates emotions, and can have far-reaching consequences. Understanding yellow journalism and actively fighting against it is vital for maintaining a well-informed society”. (excerpt)
Nothing bipartisan either. Everything should be partisan.
She’s thinking protecting girls from creeps, which is good.
The left would happily take “unwanted” and use it like a version of their attempt to use “Fairness Doctrine” to silence Rush.
Pictures of them behaving badly, political cartoons, AI parodies, all make leftists (and RINOs) look bad. They are thus unwanted, and must be removed.
Whatever she suggested, by the time the uniparty gets done making a bill out of it, buried in there will be the means to silence political speech.
