Democrat Senator Chris Murphy (CT) and presumably others encouraged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to reject the prospect of a peace deal without so-called "security guarantees" (a euphemism for American military commitments) just before the now-infamous Oval Office blow-out.
As RedState reported, a 40-minute presser between Zelensky and President Donald Trump turned sour after the former, who had been antagonistic and dismissive of U.S. concerns throughout the meeting, interjected to interrogate JD Vance for the cameras. The vice president had mentioned working toward diplomacy, which didn't sit well with the Ukrainian president, and in a move that struck the administration as disrespectful, Zelensky publicly denounced any possibility of a ceasefire that would pause the war with Russia. A later tweetstorm from the Ukrainian president only appeared to fray relations further.
One of the big questions was how we even arrived at that point. What caused Zelensky to walk into the White House with the sense that he could bully Trump in front of the press and scoff at any diplomatic negotiations? A post made by Murphy gives the game away.
Chris Murphy 🟧 @ChrisMurphyCT · Follow Just finished a meeting with President Zelensky here in Washington. He confirmed that the Ukrainian people will not support a fake peace agreement where Putin gets everything he wants and there are no security arrangements for Ukraine.
Less than an hour before entering the Oval Office, Zelensky met with several lawmakers, including Murphy and other Democrats. Based on the wording of the above post, the senator (or someone else at the table) pressed the Ukrainian president to reject a "fake peace agreement," which is a clear shot at Trump's attempts at diplomacy. At the very least, these Democrats encouraged Zelensky to remain defiant in that position, and we all know what happened next.

Thanks to those who replied to my post. But you seem to be saying that Grassley and Graham were there as part of their regular duties. It’s part of their regular duties duties to tell Z to blow up a peace mtg?
As far as Graham criticing Z after wards, he often talks out of both sides of his mouth. He was at that mtg then when it blows up, we see “good” lindsey? Yawn, seen that show before.
I’m in no position to judge, would just like to it covered when then are gallons of ink being spilled on back door anitcs by libs.
Yep, Graham is a flake.
A response from Wicker and Grassley would give a better picture, one way or the other.
Where’s Legally Bondi?
Logan Act pertains to “private citizens.” Senators are not private citizens, but I think you point correctly to the illegality of their actions. Article II definitely makes the President the chief of diplomacy. Now post-diplomatic policy, the Senate has a check on the President making bad deals. But to interfer on the front side is contemptible. I think Trump should pursue this group in that meeting with Z. United States v. Curtiss-Wright Export Corp., 299 U.S. 304 (1936), certainly put the President as the sole negotiator with foreign powers.
“Nothing in section 953 [Logan Act], however, would appear to restrict members of the Congress from engaging in discussions with foreign officials in pursuance of their legislative duties under the Constitution.” Wikipedia
On the other hand, the State Dept does require permission for Congressmen to engage. I doubt that happen Friday.
Figured the penis hound, little Chrissy Murphy would be involved. He’s a real turd roller.
Democrats WILL NOT ALLOW PRESIDENT TRUMP TO GET A FOREIGN POLICY WIN.
DEMOCRATS ARE ANTI AMERICAN.
Democrats Encouraged Zelensky
Anything that is anti America the democrats are always in for it 100%.
Democrats only care about Ukraine to the extent that they can hurt Trump on the issue.
If Trump was actually helping Zelenskyy, they would accuse him of being a warmonger.
Zelenskyy knows he’s owned by Trump he’s begging for a deal now and he gave Trump another ace to work with.
