Because Congress refuses to enshrine the cuts into the budget.

Lots of conservatives have been hurt by the mass firings. 30% of the workforce is made up of veterans. Trump is hurting some of his own people. I guess though in war, casualties on our side are necessary.

Needs an act of congress. Trump trying to unilaterally downsize the government is only temporary unless Congress acts.

Is it people downsizing or funding downsizing? There is STILL massive amounts of work so if Fed people downsizing, contractor support will have to be increased.

I remember being a contractor in my early 20s for a large cabinet level federal agency on the National Mall.

I was BSing one morning with a government employee of comparable age. Let’s call him Kevin.

I heard a voice over the cubicle wall. “Is someone sitting on Kevin’s desk?”

I replied “Yeah it’s me”

He said “It makes it hard to read the newspaper. You’re making my desk move when you do that.”

Kevin’s desk shared a cubicle wall with the neighbor, desks were attached to cubicle wall.

I kept that memory the rest of my working years. These people didn’t even have to PRETEND to look busy.

Reasonably confident that the RIFs are not going to be totally random and vet status will be one of the down select criterion for those who remain. DC area workers are 90+% hard core Democrats

“USAID employees given 15 minutes to clear out offices”

Most of the job growth during Biden’s administration was in government jobs. The remainder were part time jobs and those jobs went to foreign nationals.

Trump and his team are just cutting the fat that is floating at the top.

Yeah, I have a pretty good idea of how it works, or more to the point - how it does not work.

Totally support the Trump efforts to reform the system.

After hearing endless sociopathic comments from government workers like “learn to code” when asked about the destruction wrought on Americans in flyover country affected by their ill advised polices I'm have a hard time generating much sympathy for most of those being cut loose.

It’s like (Newly appointed Deputy FBI director) Dan bongino said...”All of us are going to have to take a little bit of it on the chin”.

When government workers are 90% Democrats and those hired in the last 4 years are 98% rabid Leftists...

Is that true? 90% and 98%?

It's looking that way.

Partisan political hiring has been a primary function of every Democrat administration since Clinton but it has been honed to an art by Obama and Biden.

Maintaining the Clinton status quo was an unstated part of GW Bush's "New Tone In Washington" so he made the process of stacking the government employment roles with partisan Democrats a bi partisan effort.

Trump never really was a factor in cutting back the Democrat patronage machine or resisting Democrats efforts to "burrow in" their political operatives in paid government positions during his administration

Under Biden DEI was the primary selection criterion for government hiring so yes, virtually all hires are aligned with the DEI agenda - or at least profess to be.

A huge portion of the normals in government service have retired, have been forced out or have left in disgust.

Happy Birthday! Nope, not tired yet.

The principal impact of this will not be economic, although every bit helps. The impact will be in how the government operates. "Lost in the bureaucratic swamp" becomes much more difficult when there are fewer throats to choke.

I’ve received the offer to leave twice. In both of my cases my choice was take it or take it. In one case I was offered five months severance in exchange for a one year non-compete. The lawyer at my current employer got that nullified.

In most cases I’ve seen, when a company offers voluntary severance the first offer is the best offer.

Future voluntary packages won’t be nearly as aggressive. I suspect 3-4 months pay.
