Newsom Threatens to Withhold Aid from California Cities — While Begging Trump for Help
Breitbart ^ | 02/25/2025 | Joel B. Pollak

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is threatening to withhold aid from cities that do not follow his homeless policies — while arguing at the same time that it would be wrong for the federal government to withhold aid from California.

Newsom is asking Congress and the Trump administration for $40 billion in aid to deal with the aftermath of the deadly Los Angeles fires — even as he spends $50 million to fight Trump over immigration and other issues.

California officials have generally pushed back against the idea that federal aid for the fires should have “strings,” such as Ambassador Ric Grenell has suggested, or supervision by a Special Master who would control spending.

The governor has said that Trump should not “politicize” the fire. He has also been at pains to show that California is capable of “accountability” on its own, unveiling a website Monday to track the progress of homeless spending.

Newsom is politicizing it. The aid needs to go to victims of the fire, and first responders, and some cleanup costs and infrastructure costs. Let them rebuild their homes and don’t force them to make their homes or neighborhoods low income housing or multi unit housing. Their devastation has nothing to do with the homelessness issues. Don’t lean on them to try, futilely, to resolve it for everyone else.

The governor has said that Trump should not “politicize” the fire.

Which is exactly what this hypocrite is doing.

As for billions of tax dollars spent on homeless:

"California has spent billions of dollars on homelessness programs over the past five years, but it has failed to adequately track the outcomes and spending of these programs, according to a state audit.

Despite the significant funding, homelessness has continued to rise in California."

VDH just did a podcast with Meghan Kelly explaining how in deep trouble Newsom is with the Olympics. If PDJT doesn’t save his butt the games won’t happen in LA.

Trump doesn’t play.

Well, actually that’s not true.

Trump plays but uses their means against them.

It is beautiful thing to behold.

Trump should give the LA fire victims a check for $750, and announce it using his best Biden voice.

Research project for a grad student at a Cali university:

How many of the homeless are homeless by choice, versus how many have a full-time job that doesn't pay enough to cover Cali taxes and the cost of living there?

Another question: why do the homeless stay in Cali and not shift to a State that is more affordable?

Finally: what is the lifestyle of the Cali homeless?

Federal aid should be given directly to the local jurisdictions, thus cutting out the state playing politics with the money.
