The Department of Homeland Secretary ordered staff to "pause" any responses to Elon Musk's recently inquiry demanding that federal employees provide a short description of their work in the week prior.
The DHS will instead send an agency response, according to a memo from Deputy Under Secretary for Management R.D. Alles shared with Just the News.
"You may have received a message this weekend from OPM [Office of Personnel Management] requesting information," the memo reads. "DHS Management will respond on behalf of the Department and all of its component offices."
"No reporting action from you is needed at this time. For now, please pause any responses outside of your DHS chain of command," it concluded.
Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) recently demanded that federal employees provide a short explanation of their work in the week prior, with some agencies fully complying and others taking a measured approach to the demand. The FBI under Kash Patel, for instance, told staffers not to respond.

Oh, they have showed that DOGE who is boss.
This may have been the goal all along. The agency leaders will become responsible for the response.
Something tells me they don't -- or don't want to.
I thought Noem was in charge
Another redundant agency that should be abolished completely
Noem might believe that DHS, with its distinct mission, shouldn’t be lumped in with purely administrative agencies when it comes to handling Musk’s memo. She could be confident she’s got this under control and prefers a unified agency response over scattered staff replies.
Why is it that Republicans can never seem to get on the same page, but even the idiotic leftist scum seems to be able to keep secrets without screwing up for the most part?
First Director Patel, now Secy Noem.
Hmmm.
Agree, completely, about all being on the same page.
Dems never/rarely send mixed signals, across each other’s areas.
“She could be confident she’s got this under control and prefers a unified agency response over scattered staff replies.”
Sounds like BS spin to me. Elon’s request is the same as millions get all the time in the private sector. I had doubts about Noem, I see now my doubts were justified.

Wow. I didn’t know that a Deputy Under Secretary had so much power.
🤔
My wife is an intermittent Federal employee (medical emergency response team stuff) under HHS, and she got the email. The correct response (for her) to "what did you do [in your government job] in the last week" was "nothing". (The correct response to "what did the government pay you for last week" was also "nothing".)
She basically answered with what she did in her civilian job, but was later told that she didn't need to answer the email.
“Another redundant agency that should be abolished completely”
You do realize the Immigration & Customs Enforcement, the Border Patrol and the Coast Guard are all part of DHS don’t you ??? Do you really want it abolished completely ???? I don’t think you do.
This is what I posted yesterday. I disagree with Patel’s action because it could become precedent: other agencies would refer to FBI and refuse to cooperate with DoGE. It is happening now, unfortunately.
I would think they’d be just as interested in what their employees are doing. Trump seems to support this.
The Department of Homeland Security has got to go. It has always been a waste of taxpayer dollars. They didn’t do jack to stop Jo Jo Pedo Bidenskyyyyyyy’s invasion of 20 million foreign freeloaders, thieves, rapists, drunks, gangbangers, pet cannibals and murderers. We won’t even go into FEMA. Mayorkass needs his worthless Cuban keister thrown in prison.
I support what they’re doing here.
However, I think the entire cabinet should have been advised and on board in advance.
The republicans newly named by Trump to lead national agencies, better get coordinated and stay that way, or they will very quickly lose credibility with much of the public.
People who already support Trump and DOGE will be more patient and cooperative. Those who already dislike what DOGE is doing are frantically looking for reasons not to cooperate, and to resist. Inconsistent or contradicting messages from the Trump Admin. will give these people motivation to keep resisting.
