What is taking so long to get the Trump tax cut cemented into law? Why are Republicans dithering?
We have a president who is surfing on a wave of popularity and a voter mandate to make the tax cuts permanent. We have a Democratic party that is rolled up into a ball of confusion. We have an economy that needs a steroid injection.
We have all the evidence needed to show that the tax cut was an unequivocal success. By the CBO’s own scoring, there has been virtually no revenue loss from the lower tax rates.
With each passing day, Wall Street is getting increasingly nervous that the Republicans are going to screw this up. We are too.
Many of our longtime friends in the House want to hold the tax cut hostage to spending cuts. If Reagan had done that, we never would have gotten his historic tax cut that rebuilt the American economy.
There’s a big ongoing debate about one bill or two bills or three bills. How about making the first bill a stand-alone immediate vote to make the Trump tax cuts permanent? Would any Republican be stupid enough to vote against a bill to prevent a $3,000 tax increase on the average family next year? Would they vote to raise taxes on every business in America? Would they vote to bring back the Alternative Minimum Tax?
Use the current policy baseline Senator Crapo has wisely suggested so there is no revenue loss from the tax cut to score.
Take the tax cut to the bank now. Then work with DOGE to cut the bloated budget later.
It’s easy. To quote the great modern philosopher Spike Lee: Do the right thing.
This is a rhetorical question right? The GOP has RINOS just as badly dicked up with TDS as the Dems.
“Why are Republicans dithering?”
Because this is the GOPe and half of the uniparty. This is not complicated.
Well, DUH!
They are Republicans... Experts at just two things:
There’s that word again...”Republicans”...
My understanding is the Trump tax cuts of 2016 are expiring.
This will instantly raise revenue.
The House resolution has within it a prohibition as to the deficit size. If you extend the cuts, the revenue does NOT raise. It declines from what various people are putting in their projections. And no, don’t stand up and yell that lower rates raise revenues. If that were actually true, it would not be true in minute 1 or month 1 or quarter 1. If you let tax rates rise via expiration, you get more revenues in that initial time period.
Spending is also a problem of course. The projections are $7T. The debt ceiling HAS to rise by the relevant amount, and that leads to interest expense the next year which makes it all . . . yes . . . impossible. Literally impossible.
This is Congress. They will try to change the subject. Ukraine money will be the focus (and folks, Ukraine money does NOT reduce spending or the deficit).
Johnson will have to go to the Democrats for votes, as all Speakers must when the debt ceiling looms. Their price for the votes? Ukraine. Immigration. LBGblahblah
About half of the House REPUBLICANT’s went to Mar a Lago for a RETREAT. I’ve seen a number of around 170 representatives present.
After the smoke cleared, they came up with a budget/ continued resolution, cutting a whopping 350 billion dollars off the debt, stretched over TEN YEARS. In other words, business as usual, and MORE pissing into the wind.
They essentially KEPT the very same budget as what Joe Biden had put up for adoption.
WORTHLESS as teats on a boar hog.
“Why are Republicans dithering?”That’s why.
Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

Increasing taxes does not raise revenue, since they discourage commercial activity.
To quote the great modern philosopher Spike Lee …Is this supposed to be a joke or sarcasm or both?
Dithering. If you’re a Republican, it’s what you do.
Why? Because too many citizens aren’t holding their personal congress-critter’s feet to the fire.
I’d love republicans in congress to list five things they did last week guess what they did nothing
First of all, they are in recess. I believe they’d rather be back in Washington after facing voters the last few days. I’m not sure when the recess is over. They have until match 14th to pass the senate bill already voted on. They just need to big and get trump to sign. Should be done first day back.
for every dollar the federal government doesn’t take from us, their power over us erodes in equal measure.
The a-holes are busy figuring out how to insert their pork in more devious ways. That’s why we haven’t heard anything. I guarantee the first thing that comes out will be an absolute abomination.
Put forth a budget while Musk is still on the loose?
